Many Reasons 9 & 10 Ball Is Broke

IMO the fault of 9 & 10 ball being broke goes to many people and things.

Corey D, Joe Tucker (although he made video for defense from it), Refs, TD's, Promoters, Players (all that do it) no ref racking and last, but not least, players understanding patterns and the mechanics of racking. So take your pick. Mine is no ref racking. Johnnyt

I think you can add the internet to that list Johnny T :thumb:
Most industries have adopted to life with the Internet as a magnificent tool. For Pool it seems to work against it. Forums, streams, websites take your pick.
If Pool doesn't work well on the Internet, how is a younger generation to give a damn?
It was once said that video killed the radio star.
In this case Internet killed the pool star.

Not negative at all just the truth at the pro level. I am not a huge fan of Ten ball but Nine ball has its place and is still challenging.

It would be nice to see more ref racking> players take what they are given.

Broken for who?

There's an old rule in product marketing: If you change the product to appeal to new customers, expect to lose a significant number of your existing customers. Tread carefully.

And its cousin: Nothing is so badly broken that you can't make it worse.

New years is NEXT Friday smart ass. Post is not really negative either. Johnnyt

You know, Johnny.

Those who make it their New Year's resolution to lose weight, and then pig out the week before, usually end up failing.

It is evolving... That does not mean it's broken....

There will be around 60 million viewers of the US Open in the Asia and Europe...

Maybe they fixed it a decade ago and we kept the broken version for nostalgia's sake.. Ref racking with inspection only definitely keeps it broken......

Jayson Shaw just posted his first Euro points event for 2016 and guess what....

Yup they are using templates.... Alternating break....

Last tourney I saw was rack your own 9 ball. There were some very heavy hitters there, and it was a joke (a really bad joke). Pattern rack, softer break, make the wing ball every time. It was almost comical, if it weren't so sad, the rack manipulation.

Games evolve. Not necessarily for the better. If you were Corey Deuel would you NOT have done what he did? Spectator viewing pleasure be damned. There's so little money and such high competition that every advantage has be taken full advantage of.

The players nowadays might not necessarily be better but the information is and this information has "ruined" the games.

I don't think the games are broke. I think you get what you get from rotation games. It's for some but not all.

HA! I knew it was broken, 20 years ago I could have strung a few racks together. Now can't run seven. Game is BROKEN.

Same game it always was

I think 9 Ball is 9 Ball and if it is broken then it is because players are better and smarter then they were years ago. The players of yesterday would do the same things the players today do if they had thought of it.

The best way to make 9 Ball more interesting again on the pro level is to go to longer races, a minimum of a race to 15, with a winner break format and the Magic Rack and tight pockets.

Let the pros string some racks together and have a real shoot out. 9 Ball should be a fast and furious shoot out. When was the last time we saw a 5 or 6 pack in a tournament?

Darn alternating break and short races ruined pro 9 Ball.

I can't concur - I hate winner breaks.

Exhibit #1 - the most boring match I've ever seen, mostly due to winner breaks:

ATM I really think the way too fast cloth is the problem and I really enjoy playing on modern medium speed cloth with heating.

OTOH I'm with you - 9 ball is what it's supposed to be and players have finally adjusted instead of being tied up in 14.1 territory like the old ones forever are.
That being said I really enjoy Snooker, too.

Cheers!

Hmmm, what's boring about this? Yeah one guy got his doors blown off but I don't need to see a hill hill match for it to be interesting. I just want to see good execution which was on display here. You say you like snooker. Do you get bored seeing someone run a 147?
