Mark Griffin/The Palace

Seeing Mark Griffin posting today reminded me of his room in Anchorage called The Palace.Back in 98 or 99 I was hauling a load of snow plows from Buffalo NY. to Anchorage,Ak. I got there just in time to play in the open that Mr. Griffin hosted at his place.He had and I hope still has the finest collection of antique Brunswicks I've ever had the pleasure to play on.I'm using this forum to thank you again Mark. And I'm wondering if anyone of you guys/gals have also had the pleasure? Don

I remember

Hey Don,

i would not have remembered your name but I remember you. I think you saw the tournament info in a magazne that used to be published - cannot remember the name, but was from the Montana area.

I am glad you liked the experience. I honestly believe that was the nicest room in the US. There were fancier rooms and all that. But when you were there, the room was over 10 years old and we kept it really nice. Full liquor and food and only one fight in over 15 years - and they were buddies.

Mark, you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the place? I'm sure our fellow AZr's would get a kick out of seeing them. Don

I was there at Mark's place in the early ninities. What a great place it was. A bunch of older tables and they all had Simonis with red circle cue balls. All the tables played great, the same. There was a 6x12 snooker table that was utilized for golf games.

Mark invited me to go upstairs where there was a night club.

Upstairs there were a couple of Brunswick Centennial pool tables that were surrounded by theater ropes to keep the area private. I was so impressed with these tables that I eventually got one for my home.

Mark is an absolute marvel for pool along with being one of the nicest and most gentle people I know. I am lucky to know him.

Beautiful room, was one of the best around. Great refurbished antique Brunswick tables, nice atmosphere etc etc etc. Sadly, it closed its doors for the last time in November of 2006 and the building is no longer.
