Does anyone know if any top pro's are playing in the straight pool qualifier for the World Championship at Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie in July? I understand that Thorsten and Jeanette played in the Maryland Qualifier last year.

Thanks

I have a feeling there will be quite a few local straight pool players there. I'm sure Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh will show up. He's a great 14.1 player.

I read on AzBilliards Main Page a news article about this pool room. I know who the owners are, as they both used to work at Bill and Billie's in Arnold, MD before it closed down.

Interestingly, I read they have Diamond tables there, as well as other brands.

Diamond tables are the sponsor table of the U.S. Open, coming up this October. If this is the only pool room in the D.C. area with Diamonds, I have a feeling that I will be hanging out there next month, not to compete for the 14.1 tournament, but for my boyfriend to get some practice in on those Diamond tables. They bank a little different than Brunswick Gold Crowns. Most pool rooms around my neck of the woods have Brunswicks.

Y'all gotta start reading the AzBilliards MAIN PAGE for all the news stuff. I know many readers, though, come straight to this forum and don't visit the Main Page.

Here's a recent article about Big Daddy's and this 14.1 qualifier: http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.cfm?storynum=5347

For more information on this venue or upcoming events, contact The Molineiro's directly at (410) 760-1332, email bigdaddysbilliards@verizon.net , or visit their website at www.bigdaddysbilliards.net

Here's what caught my eye: Currently, Big Daddy's offers four Brunswick Gold Crown nine foot tables, eight Diamond nine foot professional tables and two seven foot Diamond Pro-Ams. In July, Big Daddy's will add an additional six tables including one full size 6x12 Snooker table, one full size 5x10 "heated" three cushion table, three nine foot Brunswick Gold Crown III's, and last but not least, one more seven foot Diamond Pro-Am.

The owner Rick was really nice to me one time. My boyfriend's shaft had a dent in it, and he gifted us with a glass thingie that takes dents out of shafts. I wanted to give him money for it, but he wouldn't take any from me. He just gave it to us as a gift. Stuff like that goes a long way with me. I have never forgotten him because of it. If he runs his pool room like that, Big Daddy's should be a great place to hang out and shoot pool.

It's a poolhall, no alcohol sold here. If you live near Glen Burnie, then surely you know where Whisper's is. Big Daddy's is on the floor above Whisper's. BTW, JAM, it would definitely be a pleasure to see Keith show up in these neck of the woods. It's been awhile since I've had the pleasure to watch his talent live. Hope to see you all there. Oh and tell Rick, Romeo sent ya. He'll get a kick out of that.

I will definitely do that! :p

I like the fact that there is no alcohol served there. In fact, that's a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. The atmosphere will be more conducive to playing pool, practicing, and getting in stroke! :)

I sure do miss USA Billiards in Laurel. :(

First Break in Sterling, VA is the only other place around here that is action friendly. All the rest of the pool rooms around here seem to be singles bars and/or sports lounges with screaming fans and loud music.

Gone are the days of the OLD Bill and Billie's in Glen Burnie, which later became Jack and Jill's. I can remember when Route 1 was action from the D.C. line all the way to Jessup, ring games galore, especially on the weekends.

But the real action began after midnight at Bill and Billie's in Glen Burnie. The first time I ever saw Efren Reyes was when he came there to play. All the road players came to Bill and Billie's in Glen Burnie.

Hey Jam!

Do you think you can get Keith to enter the straight pool qualifier? The early $100 entry fee ends June 20th and then goes up to $50.

I spoke with Ryan McCreesh a couple months ago and he was planning on competing. He plays all games well and straight pool is no exception. Ed Deska is one of the leading 14.1 enthusiasts in this area. The owner Rick is no slouch either! I've heard Shaun Wilkie can play a little and should be there.

There are a couple of New Jersey entrants and quite a few good players that will be competing in this event. It is strictly a qualifier this year with a limited amount of extra cash so I'm not expecting the likes of Jeanette Lee, Thorsten, Mika Immonen. Gas prices just too high!

Here's a pic of the top 16 (out of 40) from last year. Mika Immonen won with Mike Davis in 2nd. Ed Hodan and Matt Tettreault won the qualifying spots.

Thanks for the info, Andy. I will definitely forward it to Keith. I will ask him if he would like to try to compete for a chance to play in this Dragon 14.1 pool tournament in Jersey. The 20th of June is right around the corner for sure for the cutoff! :o

I think Ryan would rather play straight pool than 9-ball, to tell you the truth! ;)

That picture is so very cool. Look at Linda Shea sitting next to Jeanette Lee. Linda "Haywood," as she was known then, was Maryland's best pro player at one time, always winning the Maryland State Championship for women. It sure is great to see her hitting 'em strong still! :)

Wedge,
I haven't seen the player's list yet. I was fortunate enough to play in the tournament last year; here is a link to the report:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=65192&highlight=Maryland

Hopefully this year's event will be better than ever. BANKONIT took some great photo's last year; maybe he will post them. One of the pro's attracted a professional photographer who also took some good photo's. If there is any interest, I have them on a CD, and could possibly post them if I have the time.

Has anyone heard who is playing in the 14.1 World Qualifier in Glen Burnie, MD?

Thanks

Wedge,

This year's event is shaping up to be a strong traditional qualifier. It is not going to be a "tune-up" for several pro players like it was last year. The 2 qualifying spots will be tough to claim! Some of the higher rated players that should be there are:

Danny Barouty
Steve Lipsky
Bob Maidhoff
Ed Deska
Shaun Wilkie
Brett Stottlemyer
Marty Ciccia
Rick Molineiro
Dan Heidrich
Don Polo
