I have not heard any news about this years tournament. I would reasonably expect that this means one of the most successful 14.1 tournaments in the country has ended. What a shame.

It appears that the group on Facebook dedicated to this tournament have changed their name as the attached screenshots show.

Not sure of any further details, as this j-u-s-t happened. But I'm sure we'll see.

Thanks, Sean, that is interesting. Sounds like something is afoot -- giving the event a broader name, which better reflects the quality of the field in recent years?

My pleasure. Yup, I think something's afoot for sure, and for good reason -- the quality-of-the-field observation you made possibly being the primary suspect! ;)

I think they were a qualifier to the worlds and basically got the same field, so why not call it the American 14.1 Championship and unilaterally claim that? I would... especially since Dragon Promotions unilaterally claimed the "world" title w/out a sanctioning body, since there was no competition for that event.

I always think better to have someone do that versus say "no event this year," so I'm OK with it. I think if I ran the very biggest qualifier/state championship in the country with a world-class field, I'd def rebrand it too.

Here's the latest info that I got from this past weekend, looks like the tourney is a go !!!

I wonder if there's gonna be a Live Stream

I remember that place. They had a dozen or so 9-footers. Brandon Shuff is the house pro there. Just going from memory, hopefully the tables play decent.
