Masse and jumps with low deflection

Does anyone find difficulty in doing full masse shots and jumps with a low deflection shaft? I seem to be able to get half masse well with my OB 2 but it becomes a struggle with more elevation, I'm not sure if it's the shaft or the sheer difficulty of full masse shots. I have also found struggle in getting the ball off the table in small jumps that don't really require a jump cue. Anyone else have this struggle or is it me?

Isn't that expected? A masse shot consists of deflecting the cue ball and then having it curve back. So a low deflection shaft would make masse's more difficult.

You can't do those shots with a low deflection shaft. Learn to kick or get another stick/shaft to do that with. I asked Buddy Hall the same question. That is what he told me.

Another shot you can't do is freeze the cueball and object ball on the long rail 3 or 4 diamonds apart. Shoot the object ball in the corner pocket and draw the cueball back down the rail and scratch in the other corner.

What did he say?

Buddy said you cant do what?

Isn't the reason for that because the rail is applying spin, not anything to do with the shaft?

I have a Z2 shaft, probably the toughest one to do jumps with. I easily jump half to 3/4 ball with this shaft. Full ball jumps are possible, but I'm scared to do it for fear of damaginng the shaft. The Z2 is out of production, so it could be tough to get a new one if I break it.

Massès are no problem, but again I wouldn't want to do one of the really, really powerful ones for fear of damaging the shaft.

If using jump cues became illegal, I'd definitely buy another type of shaft, because it is harder to jump with the Z2, and the massès are scary as hell.

I have no trouble arcing the white ball a couple feet over table distance with Massé.

I have big trouble jumping.

With both 314-1 and Z2.

Jumping and Masse with a LD shaft

You guys are nuts, laminated LD shafts are note designed to jump or masse.
It can break the tenon and if you told OB or Predator or both would most likely void your warranty

I have no trouble doing slight masse shots to clear part of an impeding ball with either my Jacoby Hybrid Edge or OB Classic+ shafts. Never try full masse nor jumps with them as I wouldn't expect them to work well and I wouldn't want to risk damage.

Guess I'm going to consider switching back to a non ld shaft with my new custom I'm having made. I like being able to do small jumps and masse shots with my player.

I use a jump cue if needed. So, basically, my LD shaft does not do great on masse shots, lucky I don't need to masse often, and if I do, I'll just another cue from the teams' rack, and masse away.
