Mastering the Jump Shot

Jumping balls with regular cue is hard and needs mastering, but in my opinion jumping balls with shorty is so easy, you can literally be bad playing pool, and can jump and pocket a ball with a shorty, the first time I used short stick to jump , I was so close pocketing the ball, the second time I made the ball.

if you ask me I really hate the short stick, you can hook up your opponent good and only to see him jump and make the ball with a short stick effortlessly

Tap, tap, tap!

A big thank you to Mary Kenniston for her excellent writing skills, she takes what I type and turns it into a work of art...you missed your calling Mary...Thanks for all you help! Go to www.robindodson.com if you'd like to order now. I hope to have it in all the stores and magazines ASAP...

You and Mary are both awesome!!!!

In the same respect your opponent can completely blow a shot and as a result of the leave become the favorite to win the game. The jump cue is the "Grand Equalizer" to today's screwy rules that shockingly, world class pool is played by.

Watched your DVD last night. Lots of good information and fun to watch. Thanks.

I was never a good student, especially if the class was boring. My hope was to give great info in a fun format. Jerry's music helped and I tried to have fun teaching. I hope you enjoyed the highlights...Mary sent me tons of pictures and Roy put them into the DVD...I still enjoy watching that part it brings back great memories!!!
Thank you,

Robin

Just got it, Robin, haven't watched yet, but wanted to thank you for the great service and taking the time to sign the cover. I'm sure I'll learn something, my jumpshot really sucks. Thanks!

Orders are coming in daily so its nice to be able to be all caught up....if anyone from Az places an order please remember the discount code = azbilliards I want you guys to have it.
Thank you for the reviews too, I hoped you would learn and enjoy it at the same time. So far so good :)

Tap Tap Tap :) lol I just had to do that :)

It is very true on both sides, but I still stop when someone is jumping more than any other shot on the table...its a cool shot when correctly done.

The problem with the jump shot is once someone learns to do it they stop looking at the other alternatives. Just because you can do it does not make it the right shot. Many times you can kick a ball up table and leave a safe for example. With the jump, you more times then not sell out even though you may not give up ball in hand. I saw an instruction video years ago that came with a jump cue that after explaining how to make the jump shot spent 75% of the tape explaining how to judge when it was the right shot or not.

It gave about a dozen examples how a small rearranging of the balls can make the shot different. One you jump the next you kick and explained the reason why. Once you know how to jump the ball you are only 20% of the way there. You have to have an understanding of what you are trying to accomplish and the probabilities that govern each shot selection. I see player after player jump a ball they should be kicking at. Like I said, more times then not the jump shot is a sell out in 9-ball even by the best jumpers.

Not on my watch either....I have a chapter on just that...When to Jump and when not too. You won't always Jump just like you won't always Kick....how do you know when to do what....its in the chapter...I want my students to Master the Jump Shot...there is more to jumping then just getting over the ball. So you are dead on.....I go over it and I believe I give them the correct tool to decide what the best way is to shoot the shot in any given curcumstance.

I m also no fan of jump-shots. But it is allowed-so you have to deal with it to play successful pool! I prefer often to choose kicking, but there are for sure some shots, that makes a jump-cue needful. There are so many jump-cues on the market which makes jumping really easy.
I would also love to say *no* to jump-shots. But how already shown up-if it is legal, you have to deal with it to stay even with the other guys.

And like someone shown up here- there are by far too many players who can t two straight strokes in a row....but trying to jump each ball available, lol^^

good luck with your product Rob,

lg from overseas,
Ingo

Thanks for the shout out, Robin! I enjoyed working with you & hope "MASTERING THE JUMP SHOT" is a huge success. Received the DVD today, watched it & went straight to my table to try out a few things I learned. Worked beautifully & I'm now hopping over & even pocketing balls consistently. If an old pro like me can pick up a few things that I didn't know, it's the nuts for those that can't jump or struggle with the shot. Great job! Robin, I think you've got a winner!

EVERYTHING you ever needed to know on the Jump Shot! Courtesy of Hall of Famer Robin Dodson. I love the fact that it's a specialized DVD dealing with one very important aspect of the game. Many of us old timers never learned the jump shot because we grew up in the era of "roll-out" pool. But even an old dog like me can learn new tricks, thanks to my buddy "Gold Dust" Robin. That's cause everything she touches turns to gold, even her kids are golden!

An excellent first effort by Robin, good quality production plus easy to follow and understand all the principles shown here. You will improve your jumping ability after watching this DVD. That I can guarantee. Thanks Robby! :thumbup2:

Awwwww, thank you..... its a shot that is soooooo misunderstood....once you see the DVD you will know its a shot that you can develop (and its not luck, its skill and practice) my DVD is just a shortcut.
Personally, I'm on the side of jumping....but Please-Please-Please (don't misunderstand me)...learn the shot...know when and when not to jump.....Kicking is not left to the wayside...the Jump Shot only gives another tool in your bag. I say, use it wisely. But absolutely USE it!

Thanks again Johnnyt........... I felt your pain ;)
I got your order it will go out in the morning. :)

Thank you Jay, Roy and I took 5 months ... and lots of outfits :)
Sometimes it was a quick take ...meaning I nailed both what I was trying to say and the shot, not that easy having a split focus. Other times I could see Roy nodding off, I have a huge respect for actors with long lines now. The hardest part was speaking to a camera and not a person. I tried to keep it warm and friendly, I think I did that...and I love how it turned out. Thanks for the review and kind words.

I Just watched your clip from your video and I noticed something. In many shots you don't put your bridge hand on the table. That is the way I have jumped ball most of the time for like 20 years and when someone would see me do it would always take a second take.

I just lock my elbow against my body so my floating bridge hand is stable and it is the easiest way in the world to jump in many cases. Especially for people with small hands or where balls may be in the way. Your video may be the first time I ever saw it demonstrated. Do you go into depth about this method on the DVD. Your clip is very good by the way and I assume the rest of the video is equal quality. You better have more videos on the back burner because I think this may be your calling. You are peasant to watch as well as listen to.
