Masters Tournament In Progress

The Masters is in full swing this week, and although the turnout was smaller than anticipated, the field is chockful of high-caliber players. :)

Jose Parica is on the road, and after capturing a great win in Texas, he's gotta be feeling pretty confident and may be a favorite in this event. ;)

Scott "The Shot" Smith is in the house, the best tournament director in the States. I always like it when Scott is running the show!

First round, Shawn Putnam plays Josh Brothers. That's the only news I've got so far, but I'm hoping others will chime in with some updates!

Are there any posters here who can help out?

Is the side arm player in attendance ? How about Danny Harriman ? What about Earl,Buddy,Johnny, Tony Crosby,Lil John,Hillbilly, Danny B.,Greg,etc..

Side-armed player couldn't make it. :p

According to the Main Page, Francisco Bustamante, Shawn Putnam, Corey Deuel, Jose Parica are some of the name-brand players who showed up. Scott Frost is in the house, and I hadn't seen him on the tournament trail in quite some time.

Danny Basavich is in Las Vegas the end of July attending a film festival for Lion Gates Productions. He'll be doing an exhibition promoting his upcoming movie.

Who's Greg?

The only other person that I know of that's playing is Chris Szuter & I'm pretty sure Mike Davis is there. In Hagerstown he talked like he was going.

Corey Deuel has remained undefeated so far because none of his opponents showed up.
Shawn Putnam lost to Santos and Dave Bollman lost so some guy from North Carolina. Never seen him before nor do I know his name but he plays really well.
Corey and Scott Frost played some One Pocket and Scott won it.
Mike Lebron is there but I didn't see him play.
Mike Davis won his match.
And Francisco...well, you can imagine the outcome of his matches so far...needless to say, he won.

Chris Szuter is on the one loss side (forgot who put him there). I think Szuter & Putnam are in the same bracket... never fun when two buddies have to play each other, esp on the one loss side.

I wonder if this is the guy that "kwilson" was trying to get action for on here about a month ago... seems no one wanted any from the guy, not even Tony Watson. At least that's what kwilson said anyway.... The guy he was talking about is named Mike Fuller. Templar, could that be the guy?

And no one mentioned ..

That 15 year old Chris Futrell is on the winner's side too.

See there, JAM told us to watch out for him .... lol

And I now have something in common with Cory Deuel now,
I beat Matlock the same way, by forfeit in a tournament
here at Rumors. We were both on the winners side on Saturday,
and he didn't show up on Sunday.

The field is a bit underwhelming, nothing like the Masters of previous years. Corey, Busta and Sambajon will be heavy favorites to take this one down :).

I think Jose Parica is a no show as well. He forfeited both of his matches.

I didn't even think to ask his name when I talked to him after his and Dave Bolman's match. He's a pretty nice guy though and was very pleasant and polite. He made some very difficult shots against Bolman and his playing style impressed me quite a bit.

Only 45 players. Out of those I saw at least 3 or more no shows. Dissapointing.
Yes, but why did this event get scheduled with a Tuesday start? Lots of folks have jobs and can't make a weekday tourney.
And now a 40 player tourney that is going to take 5 days?

Originally, this tournament was supposed to occur in May, if memory serves me correctly. Because of a last-minute sanctioning of a UPA event in Florida, Barry Behrman rescheduled the Masters to these dates. This event has always drawn a large player field in the past. With the NUMEROUS tournaments occurring from now until the end of September, players are probably choosing the best bang for their bucks. Like you, Black-Balled, it is very difficult for me and mine to get to these 5-plus-day events, and I'm committed to a 4-day one in August and an 8-day one in September, but there are MAJOR tournaments happening every week and weekend currently, which is a good thing, providing opportunities to play pool.

I'm bummed out that Jose Parica didn't make it. I thought for sure he would be there because he's currently on the road.

I'm going to put a call in to Brandon, who's still on the A side of the charts BTW, and see if there are any new updates, especially the action on the offs. :p

Shawn just beat Chris 9 to 0. Shawn will play the loser of Corey and Mike.

The "unknown" player from North Carolina is Robert Ray, who is a damn fine player and a friend of mine. He took out both Szuter and Bollman. He's played at the US Open before, where he took out Nick Varner to place in the top 32. He's got skills. He'll be playing at the Open again this year since he won a qualifier. I doubt anybody that's barking has Robert as his horse, since Robert usually plays on his own money (although I'm sure he wouldn't mind having a stake).

Could this be the chickens coming home to Roost. What goes around comes around and the turn out may be a sign! Just my 2 cents and thoughts!!!
