Matchroom looking for players for the U.S. Open

Most on the forum did not agree with this assertion, believing no such guarantee was made by Matchroom based on a field of 128. If you have documentary evidence that this guarantee was made, please provide it.

I never saw a MR statement capping the field at 128. I've followed this since the day they bought it from Barry's family. I scrolled back thru all of MR's Open news updates and never was 128 ever mentioned.

I would like nothing more than this to die, at least my participation in it, but I have read this more times than I could remember about it being capped at 128 then opened up to 256. I am not in the inner-circle but I have been following this tournament as I hope for the best possible outcome for years to come. I love pool and support it everyday.

But since you asked for at least one source of where I read it, here is an article from Billiard Digest "Taking a Mulligan", but I've read it several times: https://www.facebook.com/183977501740/posts/10155740381291741?sfns=xmwa

I will not respond again as there are more important things like aiming systems to discuss.:eek:

MR, at least publicly, did not announce field size til Nov. of last year. 256 was what was listed. I have no clue where Panozzo got his info. You can go to MR's site and look at every news article on the Open. 128 man field was not mentioned.

Thanks for that. It's a mulligan after all.

Aim well, shoot straight, and hope the ball doesn't skid.

I saw that , I also know Roy's basement was not at all too happy when he found out and posted his distain ,, they would have been better served to take that money they spent on that sign and added it in to the prize pool ,, there is zero doubt in my mind some players yet to pay pulled out because of the change

regardless of any possible or perceived missteps by MR … I for one am thrilled to be watching this :)

That article is dated 4-5. The one i posted link to was from last September. E. Frazier stated then the field was 256. I haven't see/heard one thing from MR saying field was 128. This was in Sept. '18 issue meaning interview was done at least a week or two before publication. She clearly states "256" man field. http://www.matchroompool.com/wp-content/uploads/Billiards-Digest-Sept-2018-MRP.pdf I don't know why people keep harping on : 1. $300,000 added. Never was that mentioned. 2. 128man field. If this was EVER stated it was in behind closed doors in a private meeting. EVERY public announcement by MR has been a 256 man field. I think they're killin' it. Best thing EVER to happen to pro pool is MR getting into it on this scale.

Why does everybody keep using "MR" for Matchroom? It's Matchroom Sport or Matchroom Multi Sport, e.g. MS or MMS.

this being the biggest pool forum at least in america. matchroom should at least post their reply or apology or the correct information. then that shows credibility.

nothing works better than communicating with the public over minor disputes before they grow into major unfounded ones.

I don't think it would be wise for it to use azb forum as a vehicle for communication.

Perhaps a press release through the main azb site, but I'd expect Matchroom's voice to come through its own site.

Neither do I. The suggestion that Matchroom owes an explanation to this forum doesn't jive with me. In fact, I see no need for them to apologize to anyone, possibly save those few denied a spot in the event because the field was proclaimed to be filled, and it's unlikely they even know who those people are.

good things travel slow bad more quickly. by responding they get the correct story out. and i know i dont go to their website and i dont even know where the tournament is held. .nor does anyone else that doesnt try to find out.

if you want pool to grow you have to respond to the masses. those that are pool nuts arent the full audience.

You mean Matchroom Sport or Matchroom Mutli Sport, right?

Not sure what to say...if you really want to know what the Beatles sound like, you'll listen to the Beatles, y-know?

Pretty sure he meant MR.

:eek::grin-square:

???

Copied straight from the Matchroompool.com website:

Matchroom are the world leaders in hosting, promoting and broadcasting nine-ball pool. With a portfolio of major events headed by the transatlantic tussle which is the Mosconi Cup, Matchroom have been staging the tournaments the world’s best players all want to play in since 1993.

If they refer to themselves as Matchroom, why shouldn't we?
