I'm pretty surprised more snooker players aren't jumping into the pool world. It's sort of a myth that they all make more money playing snooker. Yeah -- the top few make good money, but it's really not that different than pool once you get past the top 10 or so. That's what it looks like to me at least. Maybe they have more guaranteed money -- guess I don't know.

The way to make a living for the 2nd tiered players in any discipline may be to cross-over whenever it's possible.

American Pool, English Pool, Chinese 8 Ball, there's certainly a lot of crossover in skill. The way Matchroom has turned the break into more of a controlled shot -- I see that really helping the snooker/Chinese 8 ball players. I think someone like Gareth Potts would do very well in Matchroom's pool events.

it must be that they aren't good enough in pool to really make $ unless they dedicated more time to it. They would likely struggle with the break, safety play, and jump shots

Under the blast-from-the-past category, I see that Oliver Ortmann and Tony Drago are entered.

It looks like Ortmann has played in only two tournaments in the last four years. Drago did play last year in this event finishing 65th.

From the snooker players Gary Wilson is back. Stuart Bingham who won the World Snooker Championship in 2015 is entered. David Lilley ranked about 80 is also playing.

From the US I see:
Van Boening
Woodward
Thorpe
Styer
Lombardo
Tokoph
Vidal
Hart
Yednak

nice to see wilson going at it again. he doesn't mess around, gets on with it. bingham knows the game better than trump or lisowski, he played with earl and rodney morris recently. maybe he can win a couple of matches, maybe go to single elim, but it's hard to gauge

I don't think many would be threatening to place, but they could cash. There's been a lot of lamenting over the years about the lack of money in pool and some of the snooker players hint at the same problem. However, few players maximize their cue calendar. Chris Melling and Tony Drago are the only ones that quickly come to mind as competing in multiple disciplines.

I guess now some of the Asian players are doing both American pool and Chinese 8 ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing more crossover, of course unless the promoters prevent it.

[...]

Last four years for Ortmann --he's played at least:

2021 Eurotour events - 3
2019 Eurotour events - 4
Predator Germany Open (2022)
Reelive Bremen Open (2021)
Player's Cup Pinneberg (2019)
ACS Open (2019)
German Pool Masters (2019)

snooker is definitely in a worse place than pre-covid. pool is in a better place, and growing. if that's a trend there will for sure be more crossovers. but i don't think spreading wide over multiple cue sports will ever be a successful strategy. just look at melling.. nice highlight reel shots but few trophies

Good to hear he's still active. I was going by the AZB money list which likely doesn't have a lot of the European tournaments (and leagues). AZB does seem to have the Eurotour events.

It is really a bummer to have the names of the players in alphabetical order, making it easier to look up names. I give up with that size 0.111 font. Not railbird friendly at all.

Looks like a wonderful event. This strong, internationally diverse, field is about as good as it gets, and I'm going to guess that seven of the eight quarterfinalists will be 800+Fargo players.

Several Americans, Thorpe and Styer among them, can close ground on absentee Wolford for the third automatic qualifying spot for Team USA, joining SVB and Skyler.

Picking a winner in this one is near impossible, but the cream is sure to rise to the top and may the best man win.

hard to call, but a repeat winner is looking improbable. albin has looked out of sorts the entire year. was pretty strong by shane and albin both last year to go to two big field finals with months apart

kaci is out of commission, FSR's crazy run looks to have come to a halt.. maybe time for a ko brother to win a matchroom major.. or fedor..

Another player for whom it is just a matter of time is Zielinski. He'll win a major at some point. Mario He might be another who wins something big very soon. Skyler Woodward, who won bronze in each of the last two Matchroom majors, is also in with a chance. Still, fresh off second at the UK Open, second at the World Cup of Pool and a win at Euro-tour Slovenia, I think Filler enters the event in very strong form and is the man to beat.

Another player that really starting to knock on the door is Ko Ping-Chung. Lots of great players out there to look out for these days that's for sure!

Ko Ping Chung is not seeking to break out for his first major. He is a former World 10-ball Champion and just won the Sharks event that had a $30,000 first prize,
