Matchroom Major event -Hanoi Open (10-15 October),Vietnam, Winner $30K

Do you guys think Emily will announce a Reyes Cup? Philippines vs the World?
When (and if) Reyes Cup comes to reality there will be a special thread (for me to rant about :p) but as long as we don't have one here are my 2 cents. Asian team event better be Philippines and Taiwan at least, combined together, and maybe drop the likes of Yapp or Duong there. Even better, get two such mixed teams compete one another and the winner gets to play the Mosconi Cup winner.

Whichever of those is named Reyes Cup (only Asian event or "the main thing", it's up to the organisers :) If there is only one team from any Asian country, and picked on some weird basis, I'm outta'it, lol.

That's how it's supposed to be. When it's the "beeps" do they pause the beeps if the player is mid-stroke? The ref should do the same. Announce "10", and "5", no matter what.
Calling 5 is unnecessary. Those having the Eurotours experience, the Europeans (and some other players as those are open events) are used to hearing 10 seconds warning only. After that it is the player's responsibility to strike the cueball before "foul" is announced.
What I'm driving at, calling 5 can be (and actually is) pretty much distractive.

I think many of the Asian countries don't like each other. I think they would have a hard time working together on the same team.

Skill wise, I believe a complete Filipino team can take on the world, and they would work together well.

Pleased to see that two more rounds were completed while I slept last night. Nice final four.

Pehlivanovic had a silver at the 2022 World Games and another silver at the 2002 World 8-ball. Perhaps his time has come.

Shaw looked like he'd contend for the US Open 9-ball title a few weeks ago when Pecelj came back from 6-2 in the quarterfinal. He's hungry for a title, and maybe it's his week.

Ouschan finds himself in the final four of a Matchroom major for the first time in a while. He's got the pedigree, so let's see if he can prevail.

Ko Ping Chung is, along with Filler (won China Open and Qatar Open), the hottest player on the planet and is very hard to beat right now. Looks like he had the usual stiff test against Lechner on his way to the semis. Can he win two Matchroom majors in a row (US Open and Hanoi Open)? Quite possibly.

Who's my pick? Taking note of the fact that my predictions are nearly always wrong, I'm picking Shaw. Good luck to these four semifinalists.

Anybody think Fedor got sharked on the last 7 ball vs Shaw by the guy doing the time who shouts TEN and then FIVE?

Sure looked that way to me. I believe that's why he quickly conceded the last 3 balls.

I can't imagine shooting with that.

The typical countdown beeps seem to be alot milder.

Maybe, but when he missed, Shaw jumped up and put his arms up in celebration. That’s when Fedor conceded the last couple balls. Fedor confirmed that was why he conceded.

Shaw is working really hard, trying to get in Fedors head. When he jumps up and claims victory, with three balls left, no way anyone should concede. Turn your back and walk to chair. Shot clock starts while Shaw is making a clown of himself. Never know what happens then.

if he took less time to shoot it wouldn't be an issue for him. i think ko shot 99% of his shots with 10 seconds to spare (not counting extensions) and he's not a speed demon

The ref was calling "ten" and "five" for all players, and even for Fedor in that same rack in the middle of shots Fedor made. It's hard to say that's why Fedor missed, although it's impossible to prove one way or another.

That said, what an awful way of enforcing a shot clock. Beeps are also bad. Why did the countdown clocks disappear? Those are quiet and the responsibility of the player to watch and therefore manage their own time. Using them, the only noise is when time runs out. Or, if players insist on some notice, have gentle beeps at 10 and/or 5 seconds. I found the ref calling out "ten" and "five" quite annoying and I'm only watching from my couch.

those calls were painful on the ears, absolutely brutal, cannot imagine playing with that incessant drill sargent style barking
bite the bullet and remove the clock if thats all you can figure out

It's 45 seconds....but 35 til the guy is screaming TEN....seemed pretty cheesy honestly.

100%. Not sure what the rule is but most of the time if you are down before the time expires as long as you shoot the shot without coming up you are good. If that's the case here, there is no need to call out 5 seconds.

Semifinals at 12noon and 130pm local Hanoi time (1am and 230am Eastern)
