What would you rather shoot with?

I've been using a star cue from McDermott for years and i just ordered a sneaky Pete last night.

Just interested what you'd rather use?

I think if you would stick one of those i2 shafts on there, you would have a really good cue. Never shot with Schmelke.

Both play well, I'd rather play with the schmelke if it has the stiff shaft taper. 17 years ago I'd of said the mcdermott more than likely. Was playing with a star cue then, and really liked it.

Are Star cues made overseas? If so spend a few more bucks on a American made McDermott or get a Schmelke.

It may just be ME, but I've only seen maybe two Schmelke cues in my life, but I wasn't impressed with the "hit" on them. However, I have hit with MANY McDermotts, and own two, and haven't found one yet that hit "bad".

I will say that I haven't tried any of their cheaper brand of Chinese made McDermott cues though.

If it was me I would buy a McDermott D series cue.
At least the D series will hold its value....

The majority of answers will be McDermott, for the sheer fact that the majority of them have never seen, held, or player with a Schmelke. There are thousands of McDermotts out there.

A solid Schmelke Sneaky Pete is leaps and bounds over a McDermott Star brand cue.

I've owned three Schmelke's in the past 3 years, all full splice cues. One purpleheart/maple, one cocobolo/maple, and my current is ebony/curly maple. All with different joint pins and woods, but same basic design on each. My latest has no weight bolt and a G10 joint pin, there is absolutely no metal in the cue.

never really used a schmelke, but I will say my wife has a star mcdermott and while it's ok, it's not nearly as nice as my american made one (or my old D series ones). For the money it's easy to find a D series, they hold their value, and they play great

Schmelke

USA Made to order solid SP for under $200 no brainer vs the Mc Star. Where did the 'D' series question come into play ? Talking apples and oranges vs Star.

I have owned a Schmelke and they play pretty sporty for the cabbage.
