Md team apa payouts

I wonder why the loudspeaker at SBE for the tap players is constantly disqualifying people. I laugh everytime someone recommends tap.

How can people not get dqed at a tournament that is considered to be "The largest amateur event in the world?" BTW Allan makes that assertion NOT COUNTING how many players come for Rally in the Valley. Many players play in multiple events and must forfeit 1 or the other at some point. If a player is no show and the league forfeits them how does that make TAP bad exactly? How many players do you think get forfeited at the APA Vegas show?

And just to be clear I am not bashing APA, just a single person who happens to be a L.O. I had many great experiences and met many new friends playing league, up untill I realised it was run unfairly. All that our players were doing was donating to that massive prize fund mentioned in the first post to be doled out to certain teams and players.

Kid, I had similar experience in which our team won tri-annuals and was then deemed "uncompetitive" in the next season so therefore we were dqed from the Vegas tournament. Oh how did we get uncompetitive? Lee personally raised 3 players handicap to start the new season. When I asked him to define uncompetitive ( we were 5th in a 10 team division) he simply said it was a subjective decision too bad better luck next time. This was the final straw of 3 seperate situations in which he personally made a decision against my favor.

I know what your talking about dude.

Doc

My situation was unique in the fact that the rules were never published! Like I said NO disclosure! So, they could say the penalty is 2 points and we are still in 1st or they can say its 200 and we are in last!!!

Blackcat was there every week I was and never said a word! WHY????

Its a communication issue for ME! Nothing more nothing less! Also, because its a new captain and the old one left! Isn't this a NEW team with NEW captain. Not, the old team subject to penalities accessed on a captain that is GONE and a team that is dismantled!!!!!

They kept the same name for ease! no other reason. I do not want to languish on this! The Damage is done and far to late to fix.

I just wanted to respond to YOUR comment that the "APA does not make up rules as they go" again I am NO expert! I just know the rules were for some reason not PROVIDED!

I never said a WORD because I wasn't made aware of the situation until the office took the position they did. It's none of my business nor any of my concern what other Teams do or, don't do anymore than you'd be concerned with the on goings of my Team or anyone elses.

There are Rule Books and Pamphets in everyone's Folders Week in and Week out. But, I supposed it's someone else's fault that no one on That Team Ever Bothered to Read the Information.

I'm not trying to call anyone out on this issue, because it's not nessesary. Doc' I'm not in good with anyone I just follow all the rules and encourage everyone else to do the same.

Disgruntled APA Players

IT IS REALLY SIMPLE , START YOUR OWN LEAGUE YOU NOW SUPPOSEDLY ARE EXPERTS ON WHATS NOT DONE RIGHT SO HECK IN A YEAR OR TWO AT MOST ALL THE PRESENT APA PLAYERS WILL BE PLAYING FOR YOU AND YOU CAN PAY OUT THE BIG BUCKS AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE GOES TO VEGAS. i THINK YALL WILL BE A SUCESS. GO FOR IT !!! PAVE THE WAY !!
SHOW US HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE.

AND BY THE WAY THERE AREN'T MANY STATUES BUILT FOR CRITICS BUT THERE ARE A HELL OF ALOT OUT THERE FOR THE ONES WHO WERE CRITICISED.

Blackcat THERE. Was NO rule book in the Pamphlet!!!!!!!!

After my complaint! Maybe now, I would not know??? I don't pay nor play anymore!

You were the APA representative for the pool room! You should have been an aid and of assistance and care that everyone is informed not just the special people! A new captain should have had all the help in the world from YOU! Not this its not my team attitude!!!!

The league office never told you! WHY???? Its an internal issue with the league operator. Nothing more nothing less!

Blackcat sorry to hear about your wrist! I just read about it and I know that is devastating.

I know you mean well and my comments are NOT personal. Actually, I think your cool people! If they would have told you! I am certain day one this would have been cleared up and you would have made sure everything was alright!

The main office is OFF the charts!!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, however that was 3 years ago!!! I ran across it while I was researching your initial early comment  after reading it I realized that I had never updated everyone about my recovery......

However your Team was full of Veteran Players all of whom have been in the League long enough to know the Rules. Once again not going to name, names but RW is like a brother to me but he will tell you himself that he won't even keep score on the Teams he's on, he'll come over and Coach but administratively you can forget it. My position as a League Rep is to help settle disputes on League Night, clarify rules if asked. But, beyond that I don't have any more authority than any other player. I can act as voice to the League Office on behalf of the players in the division, but the rulings and decisions are theirs to make.

Probally about 8 years ago I bought every player on my Team at that time an APA Rulebook and charged them the $5.00 in cost me, to get them RW was on my Team at the time, people were more concerned about the fact that I didn't ask them if they wanted a copy before I got them and said you owe me $5.00 rather than look at the fact that I went through the troble because I felt it was more important for everyone to be informed, than not be. Nobody every read the books and some even left them there after I gave in and said take the books and I'll eat the cost. At the beginning of each session the Office puts a new copy of the Rule Book in everyone's envelope, also there are mini locally produced 8 1/2 x 11" phamplets in all the envelope's highlighting and clarifying the Hot Topic's that alway's come up.

So bottom line is if anybody on the Team at that time bothered to go through the envelope and at least familiarize themselves with the information inside the whole situation would have been resolved before it got to the level that it did.

My position with you was that I felt that it was unfortunate that you as a new player to the league had to have his first experience play out the way that it did. And, I still feel that way. I have nothing to gain by taking my time and energy trying to explain this situation. Right is Right, and Wrong is Wrong.

Ask yourself this question, if you happend to be on a Team that did everything by the book week in and week out and a situation came about that aloud your team to advance, would it then be fair if the Team that had violations were not penalized for the mistakes they made.

Rules are rules and you can't pick and choose which one's to enforce. 3 weeks ago I had to give a game away because my player after making the shot on the 8 ball stopped the cue ball before it came to a full complete stop. The ball was in the middle of the table and would have only rolled another inch if that, but the rule is don't touch the ball while it's in motion. The week before that we gave ball in hand to the other Team because they said our player was getting advice or, (coaching) while not being on a time out.

I hope that you will listen to reason and accept the situation and move on.

what makes the apa in maryland suck is definetly not the payouts. What does suck is that who wins everything in maryland apa is determined by the league operator, whether its lee or terry (depending on what part of maryland you are in). players skill levels are screwed with so badly that its not a "fun night out" anymore. For instance, the week before you play lee's sons team, 3 or 4 of your players will mysteriously be raised a skill level for no apparent reason (yeah, that happened to my team 4 times in 3 sessions).

why do you think there are so many teams in apa in maryland? because they continue to raise peoples skill levels to break teams up.

GREAT business practice, but it sucks for the players.

proof of this is their handicapping system. if the "equalizer" system was any good, they wouldnt need to cap player totals at 23 would they?

ive played tap, and been to nationals. there is much less sandbagging in tap than apa. in tap players dont need to sandbag as much because of the 25 rule.

Im not crazy at all. someone in apa might think it's sandbagging but it isnt. tap is a higher level of competition.

When you join tap, if you are a 7 in apa then you start tap as a 6. always one skill level lower than your apa rating.

with the 25 rule instead of apa's 23 rule, there is MUCH less need to sandbag.

i have read with great interest the last couple months all this league bashing thats been on here.i havent posted much about it because i consider myself a newbie when it comes to leagues but not to the game of pool. spent about 30 years playing in bars. took a 10 year hiatus due to a certain woman i lived with at the time. started playing both bca and tap 4 years ago. after 2 sessions in each i was a 7 in bca and a 5 in tap.quit playing due to an injury. i have no feeling in half my hand and can only wrap 2 fingers around a cue. started back playing 3 sessions ago in tap and apa. started as a 3 in both.currently a 4 in tap and in apa i am a 5 in both 8 ball and 9 ball. i am nowhere near as good as i was before my injury but i see improvement every week.now heres my gripe about handicaping. in apa 8 ball i qualified as a 3 for a top gun tournament. the day of the tourn i was told i was a 4 . i said ok an i won the tourn. anyway. now 2 weeks before the regionals i find out i have to go as a 5. why ? because of the 2 s/l 2s i beat my captain put me up against the last 2 weeks that i beat up on. i am penalized because i will play a 2 as hard as i play the 6s or occasional 7s that i face. i dont sandbag .

hey jdxprs. i guess i gotta agree with you about the sandbagging and level of competition between tap and apa. i currently play in both. i am a 4 in both. oh i forgot i was just raised to a 5 in apa. i matced up against a 2 the other week in tap. he broke and ran 6 balls the first game and broke and ran 7 balls the 2nd game. heck i havent faced a 4 yet in apa that can do that ! yep they sure are better in that league for no sandbaggers. ( sarcasm noted )

Actually, I love playing people that break and run 6 or 7 balls prior to me shooting. They rarely win.

I don't know the details of your situation, nor do I want to know, since I can't do anything about it. My only response here is to the statement that the rules were not provided, which seems to be a big issue for you.

I went to poolplayers.com and three clicks later was on this page:

http://teamapa.com/custompages/custom_pages.asp?Page_ID=20

From there you can get the team manual or the local bylaws. I think the treatment you should have received is described on page 34 of the bylaws. I have no idea if your team was treated that way or differently, only that this document describes what should have happened. It does mention losing all points for a given week and not being able to recover them. Again, something different might have been done in your case, I don't know, and it's not for me to say if you were treated fairly or not. I'm just pointing out that the rules are made available to anyone in the world who wants them.

I'm pretty sure all of this has been available for several years. I'm also pretty sure "teamapa.com" is plastered all over everything sent to the teams in that area. It's where all the stats are posted, so I'm guessing there were people on your team visiting that site on a regular basis.

there are tons of stories like that one. at national qualifiers for apa, i lost to a 3 without ever walking to the table. He broke and ran two racks in a row.

and fwiw, there are NO 2's in the tap league im in now, so my guess would be that your situation is the exception, not the rule.

to jdb .you are obviously at a higher level than i currently am. i admire your talent and confidence. as i stated in an earlier post on this thread i am still recovering from an injury that has affected my shooting ability. i see improvement every week although the doctor said i will never regain the full use of my hand . i have went up 2 levels in 3 sessions . my breaking has been greatly affected due to the fact that i only have 35% of my grip strenght and cannot move my little finger or my ring finger. i have experimented with just about every break method imaginable and havent come up with a satisfactory solution yet. one thing that would improve my game is learning to play defense. i just cant get it thru my thick head to play defense. too many years playing in a bar saying defense was chicken sh*t lol. in reference to my earlier post on this thread i still say anybody that can break and run 6 or 7 balls consistently aint no 2 ! i dont care what league their in,bca, tap, apa, whatever.
