Last night at Jack's Bar, some ladies were in attendance and the subject of men (in general) came up. I think the term they used was "pig". So, having fun with it, we morphed it into a few levels.....apprentice pig, journeyman pig and the big kahuna, Jedi Pig....Winning or losing isn't the issue with the wife. Communicating is. Talk to her about the match. Tell her that she is important to you, but that you and her should have respect for the game (not that anyone else does, but that's another story). At this point, she should acknowledge the risk of losing and agree you should both play to your respective potentials. NOW, if its close and you have a shot to miss one to help her, you would be a absolute JEDI PIG to make the shot instead. Much mileage to be gained in this situation. My bet is that she'll recognize the deal and make it worth your while for years to come.
Brings to mind a scene from "She's the One". John Mahoney is reliving a little league game played between his two sons. He says to the older, less successful son, "you were your brother's hero. Bases loaded, two outs. If you throw him a meatball down the middle, he's the hero. But you give him the gas and strike him out."
Moral of the story ? Anyone can strike out their younger brother. The question is....years later....is that what you want to be remembered for ?
