Meds

Thanks for the suggestion. I live in China though and the doctors here prescribe Tiger Balm, deep tissue massage and heated glass cups and acupuncture.

Trying to get a pain pill of any kind from a Chinese doctor is like trying to celebrate the 4th of July in Tianamen Square. It's not going to happen. Pain specialists here are experts in inflicting pain not relieving it. I tried to explain that I have a problem that is not fixable with massage and heated cups but they won't hear of it. They refuse to take x-rays to see it for themselves.

So I am out of luck so far in China with this issue. I can only get pain pills when my dad sends me some. Maybe next time I am in the states I will make an appointment and ask about your suggestions. I do try to stay away from the pills and opiates because I don't want to be addicted and I also feel that if I lose weight and stretch I will be able to alleviate most of the daily pain. It's not easy for my spine to carry an extra 30lbs of belly fat around every day.

This thread reminds me that I need to get that inversion table.

There are often expatriate doctors overseas that serve the expatriate community. I don't know about China though. You could try contacting one of the expat organizations, they usually have leads for things like doctors.

I have chronic back pain myself from a motorcycle accident, a bulging disk. I get by the vast majority of the time without meds. Once or twice a year though there comes a point when I can barely get out of bed.

See if you can find somebody through the expat community. If you aren't already involved it will open a whole world for you. When I lived overseas I was involved with expat organizations, but that was too long ago, I don't gave any good contacts anymore.

When I hurt my back, I weighed about 215. About 40 lbs over what my doctor wanted. I have small bones so for me, thats a lot. It took three years to lose thirty pounds, but it stayed off. When I lived in San Francisco, I went to a Chinese, herbalist, Dr. For everything. Acupuncture with electric needles, heat lamps, THEN some of the boney, painful, massage I ever had. Then a five days supply of dirt and herbs to be boiled down to about two ounces. I am not sure if the nasty taste of the herbs is what cured most of my ailment or the fear of his boney fingers, but 90 percent of the time, it worked. Botox, try it.

I thought about doing that but it was one of the last resorts after the cortisone injections pretty much did nothing as there were some risks involved with Botox that I was unsure I wanted to proceed with it. Myofascial tears suck as it appears to not be curable. For others Botox might be an answer though.

33 years old, motorcycle accident at 21, 12 years of herniated disc issues/pain and some hip displacement in the last three years. After seeing my father go through 4 back surgeries, I opted for physical therapy. I never took pain pills, sometimes couldn't walk two feet without debilitating pain. My worst was two canes to walk. Cannabis food changed my life. I started going to the gym to strengthen my muscles to keep my body together, Epsom salt baths, hot pads on my back, I took out alcohol, nicotine and caffeine from my diet, and my only pain pills are cannabis cookies and exercise. A bad back is something I will need to deal with all my life, so i figured I needed to change my life to work with my limitations. I always though medical cannabis would only make those with appetites hungry, or keep those who nauseous from vomiting. Cannabis is a great pain reliever, but smoking it is the wrong way to relieve pain. Ingestion helps the most.

Living and dealing with pain is an interesting aspect of life. I have noticed how hard it can be to be polite and positive when in pain. I have left a pool hall a few times because I couldnt stand bending over to shoot. My chiropractor told me to lock at the hips for pool and my back would be safe.

Medical Marijuana

I feel horrible to hear the horror stories of people in pain who are only given the option of opiates. These big drug companies have become legal herion dealers. Where I live in Colorado, you have more options. Medical Marijuana is a miracal drug for some users. We are learning more and more about the medicinal ways to use cannibis all the time. There are so many active ingredients besides THC in the plant that have all kinds of uses medically. We have 100's of strains of the plant that are unique in there effect. In addition to smoking or vaporizing, we now have edibles, tinctures, balms, salves, capusules, ect made from various parts of the plant. Some offer pain releif without getting you "high". The person who said they wake up with the worst hangover everyday till they take their oxy would never experience such feelings if they could find relief through mmj. MMJ is not for everyone, but everyone should have the option to try it.

There have been a lot of discussions on meds, taking them, going off, why? I take meds every day for my pain. They work. They were working so well that I quit talking them because I had felt so good for so long. I normally have one or two good days a week, sometimes more. At this time when I quit, it had been several weeks of minimum or little pain. Certainly low enough to tolerate. A few days before leaving on a two week camping trip, my pain came back. The normal, I can't move without severe pain type of pain. To get to my pain management doctor it takes a least three day notice and then it takes two weeks for my specialized morphine to be delivered. I went to my normal personal doctor for pain medication. She does not believe in treating pain with medications and over a long term, she is correct. She gave me some weak vicodin. Lots of pain during the trip and I barely made it back and went straight to get treatment. This doctor gave me oxy which works long enough to get my normal meds. Which I take religiously every day now, no matter how good I feel. Thats what happens to people who quit taking their meds. You start feeling you don't need them or the mix is wrong. Excuse me while I take my morning dose.:o:grin:

Great thread,Kybill, almost every pool player i know in baltimore ,dc ,vir, that gambles are on pills, there is just a hand full that isnt(shuff and a couple of more, are on the natrual),plus so many young kids are hooked on these pills in baltimore(lam sure it is the same everywhere),i must admit i gave em a try, started out taking a half of a 5 mil perc, well that led to eating 15 to 20 a day,i was so lost,i thought i was ok,thank god for my wife, when she found out ,she step up and put me back on the rite path again, when she said its either the pills or your family, which one do u want to quit, well i chose the rite one,my family,if it wasnt for her i would be dead and without a family, pills r nothing to mess with(abuse),but i know they do help people that dont abuse them, but some of us dont know how to do things the right way(like me with pills).

You really don't see what taking pain meds has to do with pool???? I could probably provide a list of references but I better not.....:p
