I still say that you learn by doing. If instruction works for you then take lessons. If reading works for you then read. Sooner or later you have to take it to the table and deal with all sorts of opponents, loud ones, quiet ones, slow ones, fast ones, good players, and bad players. In the end you have to deal with yourself at the table.
