Meucci Cue Refinish

Soliciting inputs from folks who may have had their Meucci cue refinished by a reputable cue maker or company, In the past (20 years ago) I sent a Stat Of David for a re-wrap/refinish to Meucci and it took about 5 months before it was returned only to resend because part of the cue was missing the finish. So, unless anyone has had any recent positive experiences with Meucci, I am refraining from sending it to them.

Possibility, Proficient Billiards, Mike Erwin (does he still do work?), etc? Any suggestions from firsthand experiences as the challenge is the finish on the wrap that Meucci has refined over the years. Thanks...

Proficient is great, Mike Irwin has passed and his son Scott runs it now and Meucci was recently sold and I have heard some good feedback on refinish work and turn around.

Proficient refinished the butt with a lighter stain, new linen wrap, new bumper, and three shafts for $273 and change.

I am a dealer for Meucci Cues and had a Meucci that was made in the 1990s refinished by them this past month. They did a great job and the turnaround time was good as well. I upgraded to a Pro Shaft where they utilized the collar from the original shaft and put it on the new Pro Shaft. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I am located in Collierville which is about 20-30 minutes from Meucci.

Meucci has an awful reputation on this web site so nobody here is going to recommend them for any work or to buy them either.
Too bad because I like a lot of Meucci designs but the quality of the cues has been dismal.
And I owned one and it was it good cue for about 6 months then it kind of fell apart.

Sorry about your experience. I would have surely contacted Meucci if my cue “kind of fell apart” within 6 months. My customers seem to be having better luck with their cues than that. Meucci was purchased and is under new ownership. This cue was an example of their refinishing work and my experience with them in this transaction.

I had a cue "stuck" at Meucci for many months right in the midst of their sale. I wanted a full refurbish on my ~30 year old cue. Things got a little heated with the lack of progress but I have to tell you that once new ownership came on board, they contacted me, and stayed in contact with me, until I got my cue back. The final result was basically a brand new cue and a hefty discount to boot.. I hesitate to even play with it because it looks so nice.

We can all judge Meucci, or any other company, based upon their past. But, companies evolve, ownership changes, and focus on quality and customer satisfaction can take priority. This appears to be the case with the new owners at Meucci.

I have four Meucci cues now, in addition to the rest of my collection. My 95-21b Meucci with Carbon Pro shaft is my preferred player, even more than my Bautista with Revo.

Not a pitch for Meucci, but history does not always predict the future. I'm still a fan, despite being disappointed with prior leadership.

Meucci was the hot cue at one time but the quality of them went down hill.
The one I had in the 80's warped after about 6 months and I took care that it was never left in a hot or cold environment.
I hope the new owners take pride in building cues and put out a first class product.
If I was assured of getting a new cue that's well made as opposed to old stock that I have no confidence in I might consider buying one,I do like some of the designs.

i have a meucci sneaky pete from early 2000s .... no warpage .... great cue. i have left it out in the sun in the cold ect all around a great cue

I have a lot of first hand experience with this. Meucci, for the last approx 20 years has been awful for customer service. This *may* be changing with recent new ownership, time will tell. A few years ago they held a cue of mine hostage for well over a year and when it finally arrived back to me the repair was shoddy.

Subsequently I had Mike Erwin's son, Scott, do a couple repairs and refinishes and his work is amazing and cheap! His turnaround isn't always fast but he is a total expert. Anyone who doesn't know him, his dad Mike was the head repair man at Meucci I think it was over 30 years. Great guy, he passed away some time back and Scott is carrying on.

Proficient is dependable, really fast turnaround and their refinishes are top-notch. I had a Meucci Originals redone there a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the result.

Proficient is slightly higher price wise but faster turn around. Scott Erwin has a big inventory of Meucci parts and could be a better choice if a repair is needed.

best,
brian kc

Will contact the new owners of Meucci and see if I can get a lead time from those folks. Proficient would be my fall-back plan. Thanks...

Based on BrooksBilliards (see above thread) recent experience...everyone deserves a second chance especially if it's under new management.
I'd let someone else do it first, but that's just me.
Please report back on how it works out.
Keep in mind Brooks Billiards is a dealer and is going to be positive.
