Well it looks like I will make the trip to Michigan City in a couple of weeks for the Great Lakes Classic (spectating, not competing for you wisea$$es). Hopefully sjm will be along for the ride.

We NEED to know where a person can play pool near the venue, where a person can get a good breakfast, and what are some good dinner places near the venue. Help.

Hope to see some AZB'ers in the crowd.

Bigguy,
If you are there, and if we can find a place and time - YOU'RE ON.

Stakes will be dinner for everyone (it may be a significant posse this time; sort of like the last time). Maybe you should look into getting a credit card or something.

1. no pool in Michigan City

2. Rodini's restaurant. Very nice. on Franklin (Rt. 421) 1 block south of Rt. 20.

3. Breakfast...on Rt. 20, about 3 miles east of Franklin in the Evergreen Plaza. I'll try to get the name later. (Memoe's? Nemo's? )

4. Shopping...Lighthouse Place outlet mall.

Stroke-man,
Many thanks, we will use your info.

We will be "mobile", so we WILL drive to play pool. Where are the closest 9-footers to be found?

Willie, Frank chimed in before I could pass the info along....he's my source.

Closest 9' : Frankenstroke's basement (20 minutes)
Vintage Brunswick Sport King, "experienced" cloth, nice basement.

Closeset 9' in a Pool Hall : TJ's Billiards, Portage, Indiana (45 minutes)
(2) GC's, well maintained, fast cloth, one is tight.

1 GC is double shimmed. The other is triple shimmed. $8/hr.

My Sport King is average-sized pockets. Simonis. 1 dead side rail. 1 seperated slate. But you can't beat the table time.

I would think (i need to stop that) most poolroom owners read AZ and if there were a room with 9 footers where your looking they'd come on and say so. There will be a lot of pool players from out of town going to the WPBA tournament and no telling how much business he/she could get from it. Johnnyt

Okay, what about "Jukebox Billiards" in Munster (on Calumet Ave.). Sounds like they have 15 9-footers. Has anyone been there (looks like only about 20-30 minute drive - I drive fast)?

Jukebox is still there, but I haven't been there for several years. It is right off the highway, so it's easy access, but it's probably closer to 45 minutes from the Blue Chip (fast driving considered).

Thinking about a Thursday or Friday evening trip there (not open in the morning damnit); maybe with a couple of the players; certainly with some of the AZB'ers. Anyone interested just see me at the venue

You can try Campus Q in Benton Harbor, Mi. 10 9' Brunswicks, bar boxes and a billiards table. Right up I-94.

Thats about 37-40 miles from the casino. Get off I-94 at Calumet Ave south a couple blocks.

Okay okay. There are 9 footers in M.C. but if I tell you I'd have to kill myself. They are in a bad bad place.

I'll give you a hint. A bowling alley. In a kiddee game room. Next to the
Whack-A-Mole. Please don't go there. I'm begging you.

By the way, Jukebox has a 10 footer. You might like that.

jukebox billiards sucks

hi willie,
i used to live about 5 miles from jukebox billiards in munster, in. last time i played there it cost me $9 to play by myself for 1hr. thats not even the bad part...in the evenings, its kiddie central. complete with loud ass jukebox and 15 yr old smokers......lol. now, you could be at chris's in about 1.5 hour. anothr 20 minutes from jukebox, and you could play at protyme, and they have a little back room with 2 nice 9footers, 1 double and 1 triple shimmed.
good luck,
joey

...or closer than Chris's would be Red Shoes. It's probably 20 minutes or so past Jukebox in Alsip, Illinois.

RB,
Still a bit far for a late night pool session.

What about Benton Harbor or South Bend - aren't they closer than Chicago?

How about that bowling alley in Michigan City - if the tables are decent, even that would work?

Benton Harbor and South Bend are each about 40-45 miles from Michigan City. Maybe someone can chime in if there is a pool hall in New Buffalo, Michigan, just over the state line from Michigan City. As far as the bowling alley table, we'll have to wait for Frank to chime back in about that one.
