Best Tips For Less
Silver Member
Shooting Pool. My back gave way about 4 years ago. Due to other Med's i have to take I could not take Aspirin tylenol, nothing. I had my Doctors appointment yesterday and he decided to put me on a narcotic Pain Killer. I talked to the Pharmisist on how strong they were. He suggested if I was not used to taking aspirin I might try cutting them in half. Took one early evening and about an hour later I was to the freaking moon. Like 3 six packs and a few shots. Fought it for a while and decided to take a nap. Woke up about 4 hours later, pretty balanced out. Got something to eat, slept the night. Checked the bottle this morning and it reads 1 Tab 3 times a day (no freaking way). The swelling in my back went down though and a lot of the pain with it.

I feel now if I know I am not going anyplace even in the morning and more pain comes I might try a quarter or half a pill before going to bed.

Would like to get back playing again. Best I have been doing now is once a month 5 hour one pocket and pay for my back about 3 days after. People don't understand Pool is excersing. Bending down to rack, bending down to shoot, walking around the table.

Maybe help take a few un needed pounds off as well.

Not suggesting narcotics for Pool, only trying to say there is always hope. I can't really hear but still love the sound of a ball hitting the back of the pocket. :)

Be very careful with the narcotics, my friend. Learn all you can. YouTube is a great help. Diet is important in all things.
Get well, and stay well. Your pal Tramp.

Tramp, that is great advice. I am VERY careful. I am the type where less is better, if you don't feel it working, leave it alone as twice as much is NOT the answer.

My Doctor did this more for an aspirin substitute for my heart. Rule one Doctors go by for ummm older people. Have to take stuff for Heart and Cholestoral no matter what your blood work shows.

First off, Tom i really like your tips. Now as to your back, i can RELATE. I had fusion surgery 2 yrs. ago and am pretty much pain free. I can pool and golf and am a little sore next day it's not bad. Be real careful taking opioids(lortab, oxycontin, etc). It's real easy to start liking them. Also, they will PLUG YOU UP. Drink a lot of water and take stool softeners. It's called OPS(opioid constipation syndrom) and it's for real if you take 2 or more per day. Take care Tom and hope your back gets better.

Thanks Bud, Doctor rule 2 is plenty of water. I flood it down with the new flavor enhancers without the energy boosters I will look into the OPS.

Congrates on you operation, there is always hope. I think the time we are now living in blows my mind with the advances in what can be done.

Good news

I am glad you finally got some pain relief. I watched my wife suffer for years untill she finally found a pill that helped wih chronic pain. Now she can sleep at night and have a relatively normal life.

At our age we don''t take good health for granted and thank God for every day. Now go shoot some pool and win a tournament some where!

Bud, I am sorry your wife had to go through that and REAL happy she found relief,

No it can't be taken for granted. I also know my aches are minor compared to some people I know and see. I feel like one lucky person.

sorry to hear about your pain but your meds sound great.
Measureman likes a little opium based pills once in awhile.
I learned the joys of opium smoking in Viet Nam.
There's just nothing better.

My back is as fooked up as a idiots checkbook. I used to get hydrocodone when it would go south, but they wont give me pain meds nowadays thanks to the people who abuse the stuff . I just had to beg for celebrex for my osteoarthritis, maybe I need a different doctor... LOL.,

Funny story, some years back I was at the pool hall, and my back was acting up. A friend who was on some heavy duty pain pills himself offered me a 1/4 of this little pill. I laughed and said "what the hell is that going to do?" thinking it was not much, and Im a big guy. About 15 minutes after taking it, I started getting this buzzing sensation on the back of my neck, and a few minutes later...... nothing hurt. I always wanted more of those whatever they were........
