In your opinion do you think the level of pool being played was better in the color of money (Earl vs Efren) or Shane vs Mika, and which players do you think has or had the highest gears? Thanks in advance.

I think the Color of Money was more exciting because both players played great and it came right down to the wire. I feel shane played nearly as well as Earl and Efren in COM but not Mika. Overall I feel Earl (even though he lost COM) played better at a ridiculous gear for most of the COM, higher than Shane or Efren and ceratinly way better than Mika.

I think you can compare them because the games are similar. You can compare position play, dogged balls and even break to an extent. I pretty much agree with your assessment mr441.

This is something for which you don't need an opinion to guide you. The facts and statistics on both matches speak for themselves. Efren vs. Earl in the color of money were two players playing nearly perfect pool hour after hour. There were very few mistakes made. Because of that, it is considered as the finest display of pool ever, for that length of time.

Mika and Shane had a few periods of perfect pool, but it is a very high standard to compare that match to TCOM.

There was a point in COM where Earl would get to the table and run like 3-5 racks. Efren would get up and run 1, break dry and Earl would just throw up another 2 or 3. This went on for an hour. I understand 10 ball is difficult, but the COM, in my opinion is some of the most heartfelt and talented pool I have ever seen.

I'm not saying its the best, but there is certainly no other pool I've seen that is like it.

Great question. I believe the COM match was better. I think there were more Chihuahua shots in Mika vs Shane match. Day three was a wash because Mika couldn't close the score. Shanes break was good day two but he made too many mistakes and those mistakes kept the match close (even on day two).

shane vs alex

i think the shane vs alex matches are as good as the COM.
but i may be a little bias..........lol

In my opinion, it's not even close: the color of money wins by a country mile. You have the best nine ball player ever versus the best all around player ever, both in their prime. They played at an extremely high level throughout the tournament (I don't know the actual stats, but I'd be surprised if they weren't both shooting above .900), and you had the classic "come from behind" story where Efren overcame a 17 rack deficit on day 3 to ultimately win. You could flip to virtually any rack of the 237 they played and see some amazing pool.

Mika vs. Shane... neither player was ever in their top gear, although Shane certainly opened up on the final day. But there was just so much sloppy play throughout the race. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching two champions go at it, but in terms of the overall quality of play, it didn't come close to the color of money.

on a similar note....has anyone ever done a stats run thru of the color of money match....like Calired or accu-stats?

I would LOVE to see the numbers on that one!

The SVB vs Alex match is a better comparison to the COM than the SVB vs Mika match. I actually think the SVB/Alex match was better.

But since this is a thread about SVB/Mika vs the COM, I'm going to have to say the level of play in the COM was better than the SVB/Mika. Then again, it's 9-ball vs 10-ball, so the comparisons might not be entirely fair.

I don't know, but my best guess is ..... Edit: Just found it on the Accustats site: Strickland = .912; Reyes = .911.

The table that the COM was played on seemed pretty forgiving.10-ball is more a control and duck game vs more offence in 9-ball.
