Was at the Turning Stone for the final day and I was very excited to see Mika play live. Everything was great watching him get his arse handed to him by John Morra but the real trouble started after he lost. After some choice words to Morra he came back over to his chair to pack his cues. I asked him what type of cue he was using and he snaped at me..

"Where's my plastic case??"

I then realized that the girl I was with threw away a bunch of garbage that was in front of our chairs and not knowing it Mika's plastic case for his break cue. I apologize to him telling him that she didnt know any better and said to hold on and I will get it. I went to the trash can and saw that it was covered in crap so there was no way I was gonna dig for it. I then go to a cue vendor and explained what happened and he was nice enough to give me a plastic case free of charge.

I get back to the table and I again apologize to Mika handing him the case and guess what happens.... I get a smug look of how dare you and there was no thank you or its ok it was an accident comment. Nope!! Notta!!

Now don't get me wrong I know he was in a bad mood because of the Morra match but that doesnt mean you have to be a royal douche when all I tried to do was fix a situation that was an honest mistake. From what I remember the case looked mad beat up so it did look like trash. Why is a world class player carry around a break cue in a beat up plastic case anyway??? He just turned on his heel and left.

I don't know Mika and I do take into account that he was pissed off at Morra about the rack and losing but come on man.... Dont be a douchebag to people that had nothing to do with your state of affairs. Secretly I really wanted Shaw to put the screw to him and boy did he EVER!!!! 9-1 in 20 minutes was fricking epic!! Mika talking to himself and going buggy, throwing his cue and acting like a child was almost a pleasure to watch. Normally I dont wish ill upon others but be careful what you wish for... You just may get it ;)

Mika if you are reading this I want to apologize to you again for my friend throwing out your cheap ugly plastic case for your break cue. It was a mistake and I fixed it and you are welcome. I was upset for you and I made things right but you had to be ungrateful for it. I hope the next time we see each other you will take the time to apologize for your behavior. I doubt you will but prove me wrong... Prove me wrong.

Mika is known for being pissy when losing, there was either a post on here or a comment on a stream or something where a pro player was asked what player acts the worst when doing bad, they said Mika.

I confess I haven't seen a lot of pros play, but he was the first one I ever saw that threw their cue on the ground (I am sure this happens more often than I know). I was truly under impressed with his behavior. Mora shot a fantastic set, and I know there were a few rolls that kinda kicked Mika in the sack, but he was acting like a spoiled brat. Sad really.

Larry Hubbart earned the name 'The Iceman'

Whoever passed that name onto Mika should buy a dictionary.

Full time pool players (really no pro tour ) don't come here. Only john b and Wiley or someone like nightmare or J.A. if they need something. Normally a hit it and quit it post. I need this, help me with this etc. Johnny archer if you reed this can you please send the signed cue you promised my two year old son over a year ago. You stated you were waiting for your sponsor to put it up. Honestly they didn't screw up the buddy hall fundraiser you did. Thanks pinklady for sending a signed johnny archer pool ball for him! Also thank you for big truck to facilitate getting my mosconi shirt signed as promised by Johnny. With that said I'll play any full time pool player (including Scott frost ) 10-6 race to 4 one pocket $100 a set to help with gas money. I love in Pittsburg ca and have a nice table. That's just Mika...

When Mika loses that's how he is.. You could say it has to do with that killer instinct that champions possess. I personally think that you can have that killer instinct and still not be a dick to people, be they fans or not.

Serve him right. Mika is a real diva , perpetual tantrum thrower. In almost all matches I have seen him play, he behaves like a douche when he loses. And when interviewed before match he does not have nice things or compliments about other player
I am beginning to think his antics and bad behaviour are sharking moves
BTW what choice words did he say to Morra?

I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody asked. I told John that its a shame that he's Canadian. He laughed and asked why.. I said it would be great if he was American so we could have you for the Mosconi Cup. He laughed a little and Mika came charging in with.. "You know you wont get racks like that from any other player!!" "You got great racks in that match!!"

John just said thank you for the match and walked away. You see... I dont know what was going on with Mika and Shaw in the Final but both players were complaining about John's racking. Personally I saw nothing wrong with his racks. I could be wrong because of where I was sitting but come on already. If the rack is screwed up have John fix it!!! Dont cry about the wing ball or one in the side or blah blah blah. Bedwetters.

I dont want to derail this thread into another rack wars thread but thats what was said. I look at it like this. Players that break dry and blame the racker are only beating themselves. Hell the one and only time I played Bucky I broke dry 4 times in a row and lost 5-1. Did I blame Bucky?? No. Did I check his rack? No I didnt.

All in all Mika needs to calm down and focus. He beats himself

The year Mika won the US Open I saw him at Derby drinking a glass of wine with a couple friends and congratulated him. To say he was grateful for my comments would make me a liar. Definitely not a fan of him. His overall disposition toward fans is lackluster and unbecoming of a professional.

No mystery behind Mika's anger. Everywhere he goes outside the pool world, in spite of being Finnish and speaking perfect non-accented English, people are always telling him how much he looks like the Russian Premier, Putin and asking if he's related somehow. Hard cross to bear I'd imagine.

Arnaldo

Mika has a very slight accent, but his English is still very impressive.

If there is one Euro that speaks near perfect, unaccented English, that might be Neils Feijen.

i saw him lose at US one pocket in reno last year to a non strong player and he throws his cues aagainst the wall in the lobby, i thought it was hilarious.

its ok not being happy when you lose but have some sporstsmanship, first tim ehe got a good chance against morra he hooked himself on 7 ball that wasnt racks fault

Mika was cordial enough when I asked him to help me get a group selfie of the Mezz gang to post on AZB. In fact, he's holding my phone in his hand in this shot.

I think it's best to not approach anybody after they've just suffered a humiliating loss. It's like poking a dog with a stick on a hot, humid day. You just might get bit.

This is a bummer for me. I have come to the point where I don't want to meet any more "famous" people that I "look up to"......

They rarely, if ever, meet up to the ideal of them in my head.

That sucks! I`m a huge fan of Mika as a player, but tantrums is so childish and alienates you from your fans and suporters.

I never understood why he was given the nickname "Iceman," a term usually meant to convey emotionless. Granted, he doesn't have the emotional outbursts at the table ala Strickland, but he certainly let's his emotions show more than most.

I can understand acting like a jerk for at least 30-60 minutes after a loss. If you're totally focused and charged, it takes at least that long to come down. It wouldn't have made any differnce who (you or someone else) or why (cue case, missing chalk, etc)...anyone in his path would have gotten the same treatment.
