congratulations to mika immonen! mika has just won the ipt pro-am. in such a brutal format where anyone can win, he proves again why he is one of the best players in the world. not only is he a great player but he is a class act. it was my first oppurtunity to meet him this weekend and it was an honor to be on his team. great shooting, great tournament!

What? I just talked to Mika today and he never even bothered to mention the victory. What a bastard!

Mika's team qualified at Miller Time Billiards in Davenport, IA. Several of my friends were on that team...I'm very happy for them. $6,000 is a helluva nice payoff for a $75 qualifier. Congrats guys!!!satman said:

BTW, I got to play Mike Davis in the Round of 32. I was rolling pretty good 'til he gave me a good lesson in 8B. I can echo the sentiments of past posters that Mike is a pleasure to compete with. He seems like a great guy.
It was a great weekend. To me, that is what the Pro-Am is all about. Amateurs getting a taste of professional level play and the chance to hit the lottery & take home a bundle...all for a measely $75.

Shame that it didn't get much publicity here on az or on other websites around the world...

Although I did not have to worry about collecting any money this time, those that were in attendance were to receive their check on the spot. Those that went home after being eliminated would receive their check in the mail. Again, no one handed me a check so I can't confirm it happened.
Thanks for the write up, sounds like you had fun. It was interesting to look a the charts for this event. Of course they were very short races, but I noticed that the majority of amateur/amateur matches went 3-2 but the majority of amateur/pro matches were won 3-0. Were they playing winner-breaks?
It was also interesting to see one of the amateurs made the final 4, but clearly they were not bothering to filter out pro-class players from their amateur qualifiers. (E.G. Ike Runnels)

However there's no question that these events don't get much attention from the community, both because of the huge amount of bad feelings towards the IPT and because they are simply not proper international Pro-class tour events that the IPT is supposed to be running.

It was winner breaks with first break being determined by lag...which I went 3 for 3 on. I didn't have to grab the rack until I was on the hill in my second match.
