 Okay guys - when I was announcing the matches this past weekend, I had to announce Niels "The Terminator" Feijen playing Mike Davis both were followed with their recent wins, etc, but it just didn't sound as cool or riviting.
We need to give him a nickname. In one of the magazines last year the called him Mike "The Grinder" Davis - but he doesn't like it, and it didn't stick very well. A few people mentioned it when he was at the tournament table, and we all drew a blank.

Let's here some suggestions. He's 6' 5". He's quiet and polite (most of the time). He's great at jump shots. JAM - you may be better at this since you've seen his style of playing more often then most. I'm always tucked away in a corner and don't have the opportunity to watch.

Y'all are creative - let's hear it.

He won't like this one either, but what came to my mind the very first time I saw him was "Baby Huey". http://www.toonopedia.com/babyhuey.htm

LMAO - I think you're right - he won't like that at all.

Davis Nickname

"babyface" has already been used, but that was my first reaction on seeing him. How about "the saint"? Or, "Saint Michael". He has such and innocent looking face.

I'm sure someone would get offended at that and take it to the Supreme
Court to separate church and pool. :p

I thought the pool room was our 'church' , LOL,,,,,,,,,,

How about "T. J." for a nickname (Tall Jumper),,,just a random thought.........

Hey CeCe,

Have you asked Mike? Maybe some of the other poolplayers have given him a moniker, and he could tell you what he's been called before (well, maybe he won't tell you ALL the names he's been called before, lol).

Kathy F.

PS I'm thinking....but, your'e right. He's such a nice guy, it's hard to think of a 'tough' name.

Yup - I've asked

Hey Kathy! I have asked several times - and he just blushes and says "nah - I don't know make something up". He's too shy (i'd venture to say humble - but not so much all the time)

I've heard him called blue eyes before, but that's so Sinatra. I like Saint but first hand I know he's not, unless you compare him to most pool players. Is there a word for someone who looks like a saint but isn't really?

What about Gentle Giant - ooh I know - "Superman" He can jump over stacks of balls, he towers over Sambajon on ESPN, ....naah that might be a bit of a stretch.

I like the tall jumper suggestion, the tall part verbally sounds awkward - it could be opened with "Who ever said white men can't jump, never met Mike "The Jumper" Davis" - That may reference his height as well.

This is kinda fun though. Keep it up!

I think "The Therapist" sounds good - Maybe it's just me but one word names seem to stick better than two words... He's quiet, and he's given a few players an attitude check - so maybe you're on to something. :D

Mike Davis and I had a conversation about a nickname for him last year. He told me that the UPA had suggested to him that they thought it would be kind of cool for him to have a nickname.

I kind of liked "The Doctor" because of his initials, "M.D." :)

First thing that came to mind

As soon as you said he was quiet the first thing that popped into my head was "The Silencer". Shoots them down without saying a word.

Do we need nicknames?

A bit off-topic, but do nicknames do our game any good? To many they seem quite juvenile. Most of them conjure up negative images (The Black Widow, the Duchess of Doom, The Terminator). Some are OK, like Pagulayan being called The Killer Pixie.

Davis has a game that is much too powerful to need some redneck monikor. I have an idea. Let's be original and call him 'Mike'.

I'm glad you responded - I thought after B&B that you may take issue with "The Saint". ;)

I just thought of something though with "The Therapist"... it may go against him if he has to sit in the chair through the whole match.

Not that I like the nickname, but didn't they call him Mike "the glove" Davis for awhile? You could call him "The Shadow" since he casts a big shadow literally, and also figuratively on his opponent's games. On another local nickname, "the Genie Man"--Ryan McCreesh, can anyone let me know where he got that name?

"Friar Mike"???
Or, Mike "The Friar" Davis?

Ryan sports a hairdo which is, well, most times clean shaven. However, according to Ryan, he likes this haircut known as the "high-top phase." It's a New York thing, I think, and he says the BEST hair stylists in the world come from New York. When he goes back home to Albany, he always pays a visit to his hometown barber shop!

When Ryan's engaged in battle, whether in tournaments or in action, and he's feeling the heat, he rubs his head all over and over, kind of a nervous twitch I think. Because of this gesture, he became "The Genie Man"! ;)

I enjoyed B&B's immensely, especially since The Earthquake erupted and beat Mr. Davis on the hill-hill! :D

[Edited: My room mate just informed me it was 7 to 5, not hill-hill, on the B side. It's kind of funny how players can remember the scores so well! :D ]
