Anyone out there know what kind of cue he was playing with against Jayson Shaw? It looked really short with a black shaft.

I thought they said it was a Predator proto-type? or some proto-type of some kind. TAR said he was really tight lipped about it.

Miscues really hurt him early too.

From what I am told Mike works close the R/D team at Predator and that product is not yet available to public and got no information...when it comes out I am not a player

I remember Mark Tadd played with a pos cue with a black shaft. Worked pretty good for him.lol

It sounded thunky and looked like he was having a problem getting around the table a few games.

It's not the cue making him miscue...it's the tip. Johnnyt

I think you are correct. After a few tragic miscues, he stopped using his usual "applying lipstick" method of chalking and started to really dig into the chalk to make sure it was well chalked. Who knows, it could be some sort of synthetic tip.

It sounds really hard if the studio mikes tell you anything about it. We may never find out anything about it if Mike abandons it early in the testing (which he should do tonight).

One thought is that it's some sort of player/jumper hybrid that doesn't seem to do either very well. The idea would be that you could use it where dedicated jump cues are prohibited, which is the way the pros seem to be leaning these days. Of course, you have to be able to make a ball with it as well.

The tip was definitely the main issue IMO, but I think it also lacked the added weight that was required for some of the shots he was trying to make. It just sounded WAY too light to me(no butt weight)... but I give the dude credit for sticking with it. I would of snapped it like a SJC(Shaw Jump Cue)

The cuemaker is one of his main sponsors, so if he wants to keep the sponsor he probably needs too keep using it for the match at least. I'll bet he has a new tip on by tonight. Johnnyt

Agree with this ^^^

I think Dechaine wins last night with his regular player. It wasn't just the miscues, he looked like there was no feel there on certain safeties too.

I agree with this. He struggled with putting the cue ball where it needed to be time after time. So many failed safes. Its like he sacrificed using a cue he knows to be able to use a cue that might jump a bit better (didn't even work that way). He did start playing better at the end and that roll that Shaw got in the last game was sick. Luck was on Shaws side all night.

I asked him a couple weeks ago about how it plays, he said "perfect". Looked like he was having tip issues last night but also, his stroke was a little funky at times so it may have been user error.

Why are predator forcing a guy to "test" a prototype during a real match?

He could go bang balls around in a game that isn't in front of a paying audience IMO.

Mike's ''Blackie''....!!!

MD had it up at the Turning Stone and was warming up with it but for his games played with his regular ''Predator''

The Black cue is very thin,,,and black throughout...

Not sure of the ferrule but thin as well,,,,

Maybe Mike will comment on it,,,

Alan,

Sounded like he just got it -- probably explains some of the feel and tip issues.

Tough to break in new equipment under fire.

His sponsor isn't forcing him to do anything.

He's stated plenty of times he's always been a fan of Predator products even before they started sponsoring him, pretty positive this is by his own accord.

If he used it and did well, it would've been a nice bump for predator and their next thing. I guess it was also blackened to make it harder to see what may be different about its construction. Either way, he gets paid. I can't say the same for myself, so I hope he finishes the match with the cue he knows. My stroke sucks, so I always miscued more with a shaped, hard tip on my Z.

It's not the first money event he has played with the cue -- he played the 14.1 tournament a couple of weeks ago with the same cue and the same 20 questions were asked. As far as advertising goes, I'd say it's working out so far by keeping it looking like a UFO. Everyone knows it's a predator prototype at this point and people are hungry for more info.

Mike is still looking for a shaft/cue he feels 100% with. Or as close to that as we can get. He turned to me one night during a tournament and said "Lazar, I can't find a cue I can play with".

He is probably trying everything the engineers can come up with to find what he feels will work with his game.

Since everyone was saying the cue seemed light, could this be a carbon fiber prototype? Would make sense why it was all blacked out. If not you would clearly see the carbon fiber, and they have incorporated it into the bk3.
