Mike, Earl and the barn match

Which makes me wonder, what % of money bet on pool is illegal money? Gambling winnings, drug money, robbery money, extortion money, etc...

I would say all of it. Technically it's illegal to win large sums of money and not pay taxes.

Whatever it is, you can bet your last dollar it's only 10% of what it was 30+ years ago.

And people wonder what happened to pool and why no one gambles....

It was that darn War on Drugs that put a stop to the good old days.

Heck...now you can't even drive and drink a soda without a cop breaking his neck to see what you are doing. Cameras everywhere. You can't fart anymore without some space age device hearing it.:frown:

Heck...in the old days I always had at least a thousand dollars in my pocket...now the only thing I have is my welfare card.

You hit it on the head. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for drinking & driving but they have the B.A.L. So low you can't even stop in for a couple beers & a couple games without white knuckling on the way home.

Haha. How's this for an image of culture shock. One of the best film noirs of all time is Double Indemnity (1944). Early in the film the lead character, needing a break from doing the rounds as a insurance salesman "stopped off at a drive-in for a bottle of beer."

It's not the war on drugs at all, they've never even made a dent in that.... It's because casinos aren't just in Vegas, Reno and AC anymore, they're everywhere. Used to be that those with free money would go to poolrooms and local card games to blow their dough, now they just drive to the casino, don't have to argue about matching up or how much they can bet, they can just walk in and get all they want. And get their meals comped, etc.....

In the past twenty years I've seen it happen place after place.....

There was a guy who played around the rooms years ago that alleged got his money from illegal sources and I asked him once why he didn't match up tighter, so as to lose less doll hairs.

He told me it didn't matter to him, what was he supposed to do with all his cash? He couldn't buy more things and he sure as hell wasn't going to take it to the bank...

The one pocket match in question, is the Justin Hall, Earl Strickland Match

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un2hqXHAU9Q

Billy is in the booth and tells a short version of the story. According to Billy they played for 3 days and broke even...

At first I read I thought Sigel was agreeing on Earl's story. But see it is different after a re-read.

After seeing the one pocket video and Earl speaking of it, I really would like to see the older accu stats tape where Billy also talked about it. Earl said he lost 50K. Usually a player like Earl would not say he lost 50K for no reason, actually quite the opposite.

Also, if Earl says it the way he did, and he lost 50K. And then the ones winning the money, Sigel/Billy have a different story of how they broke even. This would really make sense for the winners here, as it is untaxed money, and a lot of it.

The earl story in the 1P video is terrific. Also funny to hear at the beginning is the video Incardona try to make sense of the Cyclop balls. "So Earls going to hit the lime green ball, go two rails around and settle up near the baby blue ball..."
