Custom Cues Since 1986
Silver Member
Keith Bennett from Fayetteville, North Carolina will be using one of my cues as soon as I get it done. He is one of the biggest breakers and best shooters in the south and I am very happy to make and service Keith's equipment needs. He has been using my break cues for many years and is now going to get my playing cue with my new SPT shaft taper. This taper is as good as I have ever played with. It is low deflection and extremely accurate. Everyone that has tried this SPT taper has been sold, myself included.

Stp

Mike, what does SPT stand for and why is it low deflection. Fill us in. Thanks.

All shafts either squirt or curve. My shaft, aiming directly at the contact point, with english does little of either, just like a lot of shaft today. Take a phenolic tip and english it, and it goes to the opposite direction immediately (only an example). All the new laminated shafts do something with english and compensation is needed. There is no such animal as extreme english and it will roll strait to the point in a distance, squirt and curve are a part of playing pool, always has been and always will be. My shaft gives a little but is not wippy. It is a combination of the taper and the Shaft Freeze that makes it much harder and takes out some of flex. STP Super Professional Taper. Strickland, Bennett, Hatch, and I have seen this taper on many of the top pro's cues. I don't know, do you think they might know something or just coincidence.

I tried one of these SPT shafts. I don't know if this was by design or just the way the cue came but it was about 3" shorter than usual. I was impressed with the way it played, but who am I.

Hello Mike,

Is this taper an extreme 20inch pro like what Earl was experimenting with a while back on that OB shaft? Can this taper be used on the Mach4 shaft as well and what happens when the shaft freeze wears in two years or so, does the shaft become whippy?

taper

Mike , I played with one of your sneaky pete's Doug Ennis had for sale.Just
curious if that is the same taper ? I know you may not remember ,just curious.
It was a real treat hanging out with you ,Jay ,Belinda,Doug and I can't remember
the other guys name ??? At the IHOP after the pro am event in Rocky Mtn ,NC.
Keith is a great player and I am sure he will make ya proud playing with your
cues .

Joey, you just named my new taper, thank you.

Joey gets a free shaft for the naming rights, right? What a deal!!! You get a direct endorsement by New Orleans finest.... How scared will Helfert be if you have a SPT shaft Joey? LOL
