Lyn, I've never thought it was wise for the top players to avoid posting
on AZ....just another long tradition of players not supporting their game.
They can mix it up in any good action room, it's no different on here.
At least Mike Sigel had a web presence...

But he hasn't kept it up....maybe if he posted on AZ with a link, he'd get
a little more action.

And I got a news flash for y'all...if you wanna get into a debate with
Captain Hook.....buy some back-up keyboards...;)

109,

Doubt very highly there is anyone out there in the entire pool community that has as much to offer our fellow Az'ers as Mike Sigel. His knowledge of the game, technical, physical and mental, is second to none. Whether he was the best ever, second best, fifth best whatever is not important. Mike is absolutely sure of his viewpoint. The lurkers and know-it-all's would have a field day at Mike's expense. I'm kind of glad he doesn't post. Some guy (or gal) hiding behind their keyboard spouting perceived pool knowledge would drive him nuts. Sometimes silence IS golden!

I think Mike Sigel is one of the best things that ever happened to pool.
....and Efren would agree.
AZ has over 40,000 members and even more non-member regular viewers.
By my calculations, 99.83% of these readers are fine people and would
love to see Mike post on here....and Mike is known to perform well under
pressure, a lot more than that small minority can put him under.
So if you see Mike, Lyn, show him this post and the following clip...

Professor PT,
That was funny! 99.83%, as opposed to 99.84% or, even worse, 99.82%!
You ought to box that number for the next few nights....

By the way, I agree with you that 99.8 something % here are fine people indeed.
That's why we stick around as lifers!:)

Just left Champion Billiards in Frederick, Md. Had a great week teaching and just plain playing.

Mike has a personal friend fom Champions that keeps him "afloat" of all the happenings on AZ. That friend posts here once and a while.

Posting on AZB supports AZB. AZB is far from synonymous with pool and I would venture to say in fact the vast majority of the leading people on all ends of the sport do not post here.

Mike Sigel is one of the leading players of all time. He paid his dues in the sport and few people can claim to support the sport as much as any such caliber of champion.

Whether or not he posts here is irrelevant to probably just about anything.

This game needs to take some lessons from golfers....
...they used to play for small money, also...
...but when they got their break, they were ready for it.
Lotta heroes at golf...

I think if Mike posted here, he'd post so many golden lines that every other poster would use one of them as a sig line. Think Schmidt's goat line - on steroids...

I agree! Generally, pro pool players have done a perfectly AWFUL job of marketing themselves and the game in general. I'm no sociologist but I suspect that the above is true due to the "lone wolf" nature of the game and the people who play it.

CJ obvioulsy has more of a "clue" about self-promotion (in the best sense) than the vast majority of the other pros.

He has some of the most posted to threads recently and clearly, not everyone agrees with everything he says. And just as clearly, that is FINE with CJ.

Sure....he's got product to sell. But so too does every other pool pro alive....THEMSELVES AND THE GAME OF POOL!

I agree PT, Sigel is one of a very few all around greatest pool players, and as we know he played super JAM up for the money!

Again...what forums does he post on?

Of course he owns his own forum. He owns numerous such things. He simply owns things. That is what wealth and fame brings.

As far as the interview, I was told by a writer friend of mine that actually interviewed Tiger Woods that he was instructed what questions to ask Tiger.

Indeed, Golf is much richer....and much more separated from the masses than one might wish to think.

Is this meant to represent somehow that Mr Woods supports his sport "better" than Mr Sigel represents his?

Somehow I don't see it that way.

Mr Woods can simply afford excellent PR representation, nothing more....and this in the face of serious character flaws.

Mr Sigel is an excellent representative of his sport IMHO. Whether or not he posts on any forum or can afford a PR campaign that creates his own is in fact irrelevant.

How is he that? Play him and find out. Excellence in cue sports. That's it. That's what matters.

BCA HOF member. Won more major tournaments than most can hope to even compete in. Worked in the JOSS shop and went on to make his own custom pool cues. Does Tiger make clubs? With his own Hands?

The man played great pool, AFAIK still does. Knock him because he does not post in a forum? That makes me wonder what current pool players really are. When he "made it" there was no such thing as AZB. He not only pre-dates such a thing but such a thing owes it's entire existence to people such as him.

.

And as recently as 2011 after his non-prize money income PLUNGED from prior years...all the way down to $64 million (according to Sports Illustrated) he still earns VASTLY more in a week than all the prize money in pro billiards events COMBINED!

He doesn't need a stinking forum...but as you point out, he has them and sits down to answer fan FAQs on video. And he has likely been villified more massively on a worldwide basis than any other professional athlete in history.

Any pro who doesn't post here because they're afraid of taking some flak...and yet who whines about the decline in the popularity of cue sports...is pretty pathetic IMHO.

In fact, I would bet that the ratio of AZ forum members who would be grateful for pro posts relative to the those who would flame them has to be 100-1...if not a MUCH higher ratio.

(-:

PS: Of course, the above comment would not apply to certain pros...we all know which ones...who might come on here posting flame like they know it ALL and the rest of us are idiots! (-:

Not sure where the 'knocker' appellation is coming from, Doc.
It's true I'm bugging him about joining...I don't think Mike himself would
consider that knocking....and I did say that he was one of the best things
that ever happened to pool.
I've encouraged a few people to join...is there a quota I've surpassed?

I would really dig it if he joined. He has been one of my favorite players for a long time.

Maybe I overreacted, I don't know. The thread seems to have collected some negative vibes about the man...and that bugs me I guess.
