Miscueing with Moori Mediums

I was one of Moori's biggest fans for many years, but found I was mis-cueing more often
with the "new" Medium III's ...

I switched to SuperPro's and, voila, problem solved ... (no mushrooming either)

Just got a new Madden w/2shafts and Moori meds on both. They did miscue when I shot out on the edges. I now 220 the edge before I shoot and thats done the trick. Gonna get my moneys worth before I try anything else though.

I love medium moori's. I did not miscue with them. I have a new cue without a moori and am miscuing a lot! Once I fixed the mushrooming, I stopped miscuing. :)

I think that IS the brand name ?

What brand name is the super pro ? Where do you get them from?

You can do a search for SuperPro or Super Pro in the Main Forum or Wanted/For Sale Forum and find out who is currently selling them ...

They are very reasonably priced, as opposed to most other layered tips ...

Does anyone find that when using english, when using Moori M that you have a higher amount of miscues?

I used them and had to be sure and tap them before every match...Great tip.
I now am trying the Elkmaster Milkdud...If you decide to use one of these then i suggest getting used to it before putting it in action....
I get a excessive amount of english with it.... PLus its only 8 bucks installed.......

I've used Moori Slow tips for years and something changed when they came out with the newest generation of Moori tips. The Slow Moori (softest) is as hard as any medium tip i've seen. I haven't tried the newest generation Medium Moori, but if it changed like the Slow Moori did I can see why you might have miscueing problems. I dislike the current Moori tips so much that I changed to Sniper tips and I find that they are close to the older Moori Slow tips. I've been pleased with the Sniper tips so far and i've also heard good things about the Kumai tips, but I haven't tried one yet.

This is the first I have heard of this issue. I have used Moori Mediums forever, but have not had a newer Moori Medium for a few years...how recent have the "New Moori" tips been out?

oh god, i thought was the only one miscueing with moori medium... i only miscue when i hit a straight draw tho... never really miscue with any other shot (low left/right, left/right, or follow)... but it's still very annoying...

So what what should we get moori soft? or something else?

Yep, Switched to Snipers about 3 years ago because of miscues. Problem solved.

Moori tips were awesome 4 or 5 years ago.

Okay, what's the prognosis from this thread?

I'm going to BCA and was gonna have the awesome Joe Blackburn put on a medium Moori on my new Jim Buss. Should I not do it or still do it?

IMO, there is a break-in period for a new tip, I don't know if I would go into a tourney with a new tip unless I could get plenty play time before hand. I would also recommend Kamui....no mushrooming, very consistent.

Since starting this thread, I tried what was suggested in regards to tapping the tip more. I used an ultimate tip tool but any would work.
I tried to go out as far as possible. With doing the tapping, once I determined the most extreme possible english. I miscued once or twice out of maybe 500 shots.
The problem I see is that I'm thinking that I have to constanly tap the tip to be sure I don't miscue. I'd much rather have a tip that you have to tap it once in awhile. If there is such an animal. And it very well could have been my stroke that caused the couple miscues.
How often do all of you high level players rough up or tap your tip?

That's a very good point, but my medium Moori's in the past never mushroomed (no one believes me when I say this, but it's true). ;)

If the "new" ones are mushrooming a lot now and causing the miscue's, though I need to reconsider my tip choice. :(

I don't like the new moori tips at all. Not similar to the old ones that built the reputation that the brand has.

There are others out there that are better. Some are more costly than the moori, some are considerably cheaper. Kamui and wizard are what my customers have switched to. Most of them to the wizards, they are the most similar to the old moori tips. The kamui are nice tips, but alot of my players have found them to be to "spongy" (even the hards)

Okay, here is my update:

I talked to Joe Blackburn about this in Vegas while I was there for BCAPL. On the Thursday before all the events started, we agreed a medium Moori would be okay for me. He put it on Thursday afternoon, I practiced with it that late afternoon and shot with it for the next ten days in Vegas. It hasn't mushroomed yet and I have yet to miscue.

Of course, it could be Joe's work and not the Moori. ;)

Mine did but they only mushroomed the one time. after i trimmed them they stayed the same completely

Moori is not what it used to be.They are so hard and the feeling is not there anymore, miscues .....
Kamui and Wizard are in top of my list now.Kamui a little bit better as quality and you can get more spin of the cue ball, but the price/quality of Wizard can not be beaten. Also I find Wizard a more predictable tip, I can control the whitey better.
Hope this helps ...........
