MISCUES … Should the Rules be Changed to Make Them FOULS?

Calm down, Dr. Dave.

Do you address your academic colleagues with this jr. high level tone of voice? I thought u was a professor?

Lol

I’m a retired professor now, and I’m getting older, so I can say whatever the hell I want to. So there! 🤪

I'm against the proposed rule change. I do not agree with the statement that miscues are obvious. We live in a world in which, even at pro level and even at the majors, few matches have referees. Hence, it is left to the players to litigate miscues, and I think that it is impractical. I can see it now, "that was a miscue" and "no it wasn't."

I'm on board with the objective of calling fouls more accurately, but this, to me, seems like going overboard.

There definitely seems to be a consensus on the “No” side of this debate. And rules should not changed unless there are solid reasons and consensus. I certainly wouldn’t push this any further. Although, I don’t agree with everything you wrote. Players need to “litigate” all types of fouls (double hit, wrong ball first, CB fouls, rail contact, etc). A miscue (even when totally unexpected) is probably the easiest to identify of any of these, based mostly on the errant motion of the CB, which is conclusive evidence of a sliding-push or secondary contacts, as backed up by the wide range of examples in the posted video.

Even if the WPA rules were changed to penalize a miscue just like any other sliding-tip push or secondary-hit shot, I doubt the APA would ever change their rules to follow suit. Regardless, there is no need to worry because I doubt the WPA would consider such a change in the near future.
Some of these idiots think your words are the gospel.
