Moisture Content of Chalk

The reason I started this thread is that I wanted to figure out a way to add humidity to some old chalk I have. I think the chalk plays well, but I want to make it go on better when I apply it to the tip.

I thought about steaming it, but I'll put that idea on the back burner. HA! Get it !? Back burner!?

Anyway, I'll try the idea of putting a cube in a zip lock bag with a little container of water and nothing else. I'll leave it outside where it will get a lot of direct sunlight for a few days or weeks. If that works out, I'll get a larger food container with a water tight lid to do larger batches.

I'll post how it turns out.

After two days in the bag, I tried it out and it does seem to soften it up a little and make it go on easier and more evenly. I doubt if the moisture went very deep though. Next I'll do a larger batch in a food container. I'll place it in the attic for a few weeks.

Thanks for all the responses. Peace out.

I haven't read every post on this subject, but has anyone tried putting a piece of chalk and a bit of water in one of those freezer vacuum bag and sucked all the air out of the bag and leaving it sealed up for a while?

I would think that a lot of the water would also get sucked-out with the air, but I guess it would make for an interesting experiment.

Sorry if im wrong and still new at forum, but really, i found out that before im going to play, i burn the surface of chalk that i will use around 5 second, then voila, it's easier to apply at tip and hold well, i dont know if it's grip better or just based on my feeling, but sure it's grip better. Worth to try :) my friend told me its work well too.

With a cigarette lighter ??? How do you hold onto the chalk as you "burn" it???

have you tried a cigar humidor? if in a proper humidor, the humidity level is 68-70%.......will that level work for you?
