Hey azer's our very own -sde- has finally got the monkey off his back!

He took some lessons earlier in the year and has been in a bit of a transition where his pool game is concerned but he did it!

He won his first match of the season tonite and were all so darn proud of him!

You can really see the difference in his stroke and position play.
kudos to you sir!

It's all uphill from here! Congratulations to sde - hopefully this is the start of a long winning streak!

It sure does take a little while to incorporate changes to our game. Cugos to SDE.........SPF=randyg

Thanks Gerry I am so happy that I could make you proud!:p

Seriously, it sure did feel good to get that first win of the session in the tenth week. I have intentionally not been playing myself, as you know, while going through the transition of relearning how to play, so my record is now 1-4.

Many more wins are in the future, you can be sure.

The game is 8 ball

Thanks Blackjack and I agree that it is all uphill. I mean, when can we say that we have learned it all and there is no room for improvement. Never, if we are honest with ourselves.

I took a lesson from Scott Lee, about 10 weeks ago and have been going through a MAJOR relearning process, which initially put my game back from APA equivalent 5/6 to about 2 speed. BUT I knew this would happen and I was not discouraged, I just kept practicing and doing the Mother Drills, until now I do not have to constantly think about the mechanics of the shot when I should be concentrating on making the ball.

I feel as though I have turned the corner to playing much better then before the lesson and my teammates (besides bigdaddygerald) have also commented that my stroke has greatly improved, but I know that this is only the beginning of a new era.

It is too late this session to repeat as "Top Player", 13 wins, tied with Jason Kirkwood but there is always next session. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next session. btw "Top Player" is based solely on the number of wins in the session and I am in no way saying that I play any where near the speed of Jason, I can only wish.

Thanks for the Cugos but why do you want me to play a Chinese board game?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.:)

With 40 years of playing with bad mechanics and a very limited amount of time to practice, it is taking me a bit long then most to make the changes become subconscious. I am not there yet but getting ever so close.

The next step is trying to learn how to use the 'new" stroke. I am now hitting the CB where intended and as a result I am getting English that I am not used to and it is causing me to relearn how to play position.

If this game wasn't so much work it could almost be fun! Just kidding.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all the other instructors that post here, for your contributions to all of us who are trying to improve our game and especially Scott for the extra time you spent with me (at no additional charge, btw) and for the confidence that you gave me, while we were playing 1P at the tourney in Kalamazoo a couple of weeks ago.

The streak is now at 5 wins.

Being lucky is a wonderful thing! :)

You went from an APA 5/6 to a 2 after a scott lee lesson. Well, one person I can scratch off of my list of persons to take lessons from.

Was this comment made in jest? If not you should reread what I said earlier in post #5

RunoutalloverU...First of all, sde is making an exxagerated comment. His game did go down, as I told him it would...but in reality not back to a complete beginner (we often feel that way, when we're unable to play 'comfortably'). He had also forgotten a couple of key points that we went over during the lesson. sde told me he was having some problems adjusting, and we went over what those problems were...after which you can see for youself what his improvement has been.

People apply new learning processes at different rates and different ways. Some people who have taken lessons from me saw IMMEDIATE results. One person who posts here won a Super 7 tournament, the NEXT DAY, after finishing only top 10 in previous attempts. Another poster told of beating several top pro and regional pro players just a week after we worked together. There are others here who may NEVER see significant improvement...for one reason or another (Trust me, they are a very tiny minority). It's up to the individual to learn how to apply knowledge. That's really all any good instructor can provide... knowledge and the tools with which to apply it. The hard work (and it IS hard work) remains the obligation of the student. The toughest part is sticking with it, no matter how long it takes, for the new information (or process) to replace the old.

ten weeks?

It only took you ten weeks to get your first win. That makes you way better than the Dolfins.

Lol

I do not follow football so that comment is lost on me, but it is funny that you mention Dolfins, my good buddy curlyscues, for years always referred to my old stroke that way. If I miscued he would often say, "Flipper's back", referring to the old TV show Flipper.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement.

Oh No he didnt just type that did he?

Glad to see it's finally paying off for you Steve! I knew it would.

Not to take away from your moment in the spotlight; but I see the 'monkey' is finally off bigdaddygeralds back also!

I have spotted bigdaddygerald unbelievable weight and drilled him.

First off nil I have to thank you for the complimentary overtones in your post, even though I think you may be guilty of a little "fuzzy" math.

I have in fact been beating you in these local tourneys quite consistantly for some time now, our record for those keeping track is 7-3. You dont got the 7 by the way.

As far as you drilling me with "unbelievable weight" hmmmmmm guess I musta missed those matches. I aint never played you for a dollar. I have never practiced with you either so if you dont mind please explain when you gave me all this unbelievable weight?

Really you know I love mixing it up verbally so feel free .....fire back.....or give up some of this landslide weight your talking about....................................................................................................................gave me unbelievable weight and drilled me huh????? You have never even heard of someone "drilling me" for the cash.

Flipper??

Your stroke is definitely coming along real well. (what was that about old dogs?)

Yup you're shooting better, Steve. Cujos to you sir. And Cujos to BDG also for his recent tourney outings.
