anybody knows which americans are playin ? anyone from here is coming to Malta also ?

Americans in Malta

The American team is usually announced right after the US Open. Right now all we can do is play a guessing game by looking at the rankings and the past teams. I will start by guessing Shane, Johnny, Rodney and Earl plus a top performer from the US Open.

Take that with a grain of salt. I have no inside info on this at all. But it is fun to guess.

I will be in Malta and I hope to see many other AZ'ers there. Should be a lot of fun, escaping from December on a sunny island.

i have a little inside info, but its a guess from the right guy ad his list is the same as yours,

i will call you later too.

It doesn't matter who is in it. I just look forward to next year when the US Open will be held in some other country! I heard that the next DCC will be held in a remote place in eastern Europe.

Malta is a pain to get to, its expensive to go there, and there is no direct flights that i know of, its in the Med Sea somewhere which is nice.

Who is coming?

I will be there :-) and I would like to meet some AZ ers there. I will stay in the Hilton. Meeting there should not be a problem at all. For anybody who is interested look here http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/MLAHITW-Hilton-Malta/index.do
Just to let everybody know Malta is one of the greatest islands in the Mediterranean Sea with a great historical background.
The place of the Mosconi Cup Portomaso is also known for its sensational nightlife. Now look at the pictures and imagine yourself watching the best players of the world, drinking great European beer and having some nightlife action with your buddies afterwards. Mr. Fatboy its worth it :-)

Best wishes, Tim

So you mean that Mosconi Cup should only be played in America?

You haven't noticed that it has been arranged about every second year in Europe?

@ Tim: Would be nice to meet you there, we don`t stay at the Hilton but 5 min away...we are like 10 people coming so we could hang out at night if u like....

Yes, you are correct. But the "world 9-ball championship" has been played in some other country (mainly in Manilla) other than the US since.....well who can remember when...Now the Mosconi cup is gone until next year the only big events is the US Open and DCC. Might as well export those as well... cheap labor....and too expensive to fly across the world to watch for most Americans..just ranting.....

Typically an ignorant American statement...Pool is a worldwide sport, America does not rule supreme anymore

Is my FACTUAL statement really that "ignorant"? I never made any statements in regards to Americans "rule supreme" (at least in pool anyways). I was just commmenting on the lack of large pool events being held in the USA. When was the last time the "world 9-ball" championships were held here in the US? Besides America itself, last time I checked still reigned SUPREME!!!

I think it would be nice, if each country would pick one player over 60 to play in the competition. Its always good to have legends in the mix for promotional purposes plus some play great under pressure, I think Jay H. would agree.

Matchroom Sport are pleased to announce that Finland?s Mika Immonen and Niels Feijen (Holland) are the final two players to make up the European team for this year?s 15th annual Mosconi Cup which takes place at the Hilton Hotel, Portomaso, St Julians, Malta from December 11 ? 14.

Immonen, 35, became only the second ever European player to win the prestigious US Open at the weekend when he dispatched 2006 World Pool Champion Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines 13-7 in the final.

The American-based Finn was a member of the successful European Mosconi Cup side in 2002 and will be desperate to make amends for 2006 when he was two balls away from winning the Mosconi Cup for Europe.

?It's amazing to be back in the team again. It was one of the driving forces that kept me fighting for the US Open title,? he said.

?I said to my friends before the Open that I am going to win this one and earn my spot back on the Mosconi Cup team. It's the only way and it's the right way. I simply had to show why I think I should be on that team.

Immonen who will be making his 12th Mosconi Cup appearance and has recorded 27 wins from 55 matches added, ?I am looking forward to it all and I will fight just as hard on the team so we can retain the title.?

For Feijen, the 31 year-old from The Hague, it has been a culmination of a highly successful year that saw him claim the WPA World Straight Pool Championship in August.

?It?s been a great year for me and I think I deserve to be in the team again. Of the five major events out there, I?ve finished in the top three in three of them including being runner up at the Qatar International Open and third place at the recent World Ten Ball Championship.

Feijen was one of the back bones of the European side that won so well in Las Vegas last year and overall, sports a 10 wins from 17 starts record in the event.

Immonen and Feijen now join Germany?s Ralf Souquet, Tony Drago (Malta) and Mark Gray of England to make up what looks to be one of the strongest European teams in recent years.

Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, ?It was always going to be a very tough decision and someone was going to be disappointed but that is a testament to the current strength in depth of European pool.
?Mika and Niels have played in a total of 15 Mosconi Cups between them and have both experienced victory in the event so they know all about what is required.

?Their achievements this year have been exceptional and I am sure they will be as keen as anyone to be a member of the first European team to successfully defend the Mosconi Cup.?

The final two players for the American team will be announced on Friday 31st October.
