Press release from Matchroom Sport on how they will choose the teams.

Wonder if I can vote on #5 on TEAM USA also :D


TEAM EUROPE

Each team is composed of five players and Team Europe shall be made up of the following:

1. The No.1 ranked player on the Euro Tour at conclusion of Dutch Open on 19 September.

2. Any player ranked in the ET Top 16 at conclusion of Dutch Open on 19 September.

3. Any player ranked in the ET Top 16 at conclusion of Dutch Open on 19 September.

4. Any player

5. Any player

The first three players will be announced after the Dutch Open and the other two at the conclusion of the US Open on the 25th October. Players 2-5 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.


TEAM USA

Team USA will be made up of the following five players:

1. The No.1 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.

2. The No.2 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.

3. Any player

4. Any player

5. The winner of a ‘Mosconi Cup Idol’ public vote.

Players 1 & 2 will be announced at the close of the US Open, while players 3 & 4 will be announced in September. Players 3 & 4 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.

Since Team USA’s comprehensive defeats in ’07 and ’08, there has plenty of spirited debate as to who should play in order to help turn the tide for Team USA.

On that basis, Matchroom Sport will be using a public vote to select the final member of the American team. Taking place on www.matchroompool.com , a short list will be compiled and will then be thrown open to a public vote!
 
The major difference from past years.

The first two spots on TEAM USA will now be picked using the rankings, and the public will choose player nr 5. Other years, Matchroom has picked all players.

For TEAM EUROPE the only difference is that player nr 4 and nr 5, not only nr 5 as previous years, will now be handpicked by Matchroom, and do not need to be in the top 16 on the rankings at Eurotour. This will make it a lot easier for for example popular players as Thorsten Hohmann, Mika Immonen or Jasmin Ouschan to get a spot, even though they don't play all Eurotours.

Do you know what rankings they are going to use?

and yes we all know SVB would be the 5th player, but then again I think he will be picked before that.

Looking at both sides... there's plenty-o-room for some out of ranking choices.

Who does everyone *think* will make the teams - not necessarily who they would like to see in there.... ?
 
Ralph,mika,niels,appleton and drago vs archer, svb, rodney, corey, stevie moore would be my guess.

Jasmin to replace Earl gets my vote.
I know Earl has won more games than he's lost over the years, but at what cost to the team? He probably has off-set his wins by upsetting his teammates causing them to lose games because of his actions and trowing their mental game off.

I haven't checked the stats for W-L for Earl in the last 5 years, but I bet it's not over 50/50 if that. Most of his winning avg. comes from berore that I believe. Johnnyt

You can have both... Jasmin can't replace Earl because she is European.

Can everyone please stop talking about getting Jasmin into the Mosconi Cup?

I have a bet with Roy Steffensen on this - around 1000$ - that she will not be on the team until earliest 2015 :D

I have heard that Roy has already been in contact with Matchroom and Luke Riches, trying to lobby for Jasmin. He has no shame.

I just barely mentioned the possibilites for them, and how great it would be for the people watching at home, seing a beautiful girl beating the yankees.

I didn't even remember that we had a bet on this before you told me after the conversation I had with Luke ;)

Thats a pretty shakey bet !

There's every chance that the Mosconi could be he first high profile mixed team pool event, and definitely within the next 6 years. After all - its essentially an invitational and not bound by organizational stipulations to keep the men and women separate.

Jasmin would walk into the team.

Put Jasmin in if you are strongly underestimating americans or if you don't have a very strong desire to win.She is a very good player but she it still not top level in europe.I believe her brother would demolish her but you wouldn't put him on the team either.
Souquet,hohman,drago,feijen,appleton,stepanov,peach,majid,engert....She is still not here Imo.
As far as entertainment is concerned she would be perfect. I doubt she would appreciate the barby role:smile:

We made the bet under the assumption that the current format continues. If it becomes a mixed team pool event, she is in ofcourse.

This is just another example that Roy will do anything to win a bet..

In a format like the Mosconi-cup with lots of audience, 9-ball and short races she can beat any of those guys you listed.

And she is better than her brother, Albin, imo.
