Mosconi Cup 2012 Day 2 Discussion

Holy crap didn't you think that when that ball skidded somehow we would get screwed? No ball skidded all day. Just on the most important shot. Great touch by Archer on the next one. Was it me or did Europe get all the rolls? I usually make that complaint after I get bounced from a tournament, but seemed like they got em all day.

OK. In keeping Red Auerbach's tradition....I'm going to have a cigar....I will take tied after day 2.

It's only a nailbiter in terms of points. If Europe figures out how to win a hill-hill match, so far they've lost 4 hill hill matches, then USA can't win.

If USA gets their singles going then Europe can't win.

MVP so far...Johnny Archer for USA and Niels for Europe.

I do feel as though Europe received some good rolls and the US a few bad ones...

But of course tomorrow is a new day and hopefully the some of those good rolls go our way!!

Johnny & Shane are 24k Gold!

Darren looked just about inconsolable, sitting stiff in his chair at the end of this match. But I know he'll be back tomorrow looking for revenge.

Lots of raw emotions on both sides.

Monumentally entertaining and skillful play.

Anyone else besides me living and dying with each shot? :grin-square:  :grin-square:

GO USA ! ! !

Wych is such an idiot. He keeps bringing up how many racks team Europe is up, like it means anything,,,,,,At the end of the day its who won the match PERIOD

That's probably the league mentality or something -- I know Jim either used to play on, or managed, a league, and rack count does indeed factor into handicapping, etc.

Although, the thought is when in Rome, think as Romans do, and Jim is definitely guilty of bringing in a factoid that's completely meaningless in this situation.

Of course it doesn't mean anything, the US boys had to overcome unreal pressure to win all 4 hill hill matches. Just from a mathematical standpoint a 44 to 35 ratio with points being given at 5, its incredibly unlikely that the score is 5-5.

Right there with you, Brian! I'm supposed to be working on some tasks, and with this event going on, I simply can't. :o

<sigh> Nose back to the grindstone, now that today's MC session has concluded...

Here's a short video of the last 2 games today, SVB/JA vs Daz/Feijen:

Audio kicks in at 40 seconds or so.

Europe got all the rolls but I don't feel we played our total A game today. One thing that made me happy though and that was Mike Deshane seemed to have settled down in the nerve department. He was jumping up in the air yesterday. Shuff looked very good today also.....It looks like it's going to be a close one..Very exciting so far...GO USA:thumbup:

Let's give Jim a break: he has to fill up the time with commentary and sometimes you've just run out of things to say, so you fall back on some old standbys like racks won.

Archer is the rock on this team. Van Boening is the hammer.

One of them said they don't do the Tomahawk Chop in Atlanta anymore after it looked like Johnny's wife was choppin' in the stands.

False!

Sports are full of stats other than the final, determinative score. Some of us find it interesting to read/hear/know such things.

They did get some rolls, but good play usually does. I watched the last two matches and the big difference in the Hatch match was the break. I think Dennis made 1 ball on the break and that will make anyone play bad. If you watch a recording, watch Johnny pump Shane up when Europe tied it up hill hill. You could tell Johnny knew they were the big favorite breaking. Johnny might be the best pressure player ever!
