Mosconi Cup 2019 Day 2 (26 Nov)

Stu, with all due respect, I strongly disagree.

At this point in the affair, the coach's work was over a long time ago. If the lesson was not ingrained far back, it's way too late for any changes to take root now. At this stage of the game, when a player steps to the table, they're going with what has worked best for them in the recent past. That's what they're reaching inside for and trying to make work

It's too late to be talking about the challenges the coaches face. At this stage, under the lights, with the pressure of the game, cameras, and crowd: Dippy gonna do what Dippy gonna do.

Lou Figueroa

Some truth to what you say, but it's not too late to advise them to give the kicks a little more thought before firing, or to look for a few more two way shots. These are not dramatic changes but such advice can be valuable here.

The MVP for the US team so far is Feijen.
He's coming off a long layoff due to injury.
He really shouldn't be on the Euro team.

Are you talking about Feijen's arm problem (tendonitis? tennis elbow?)? That was in late 2017 and early 2018. He came back from that in March of 2018 and won the World Pool Masters in Gibraltar, beating SVB in the finals. Since then he has played in many events, doing well in quite a few of them, including winning the Diamond Las Vegas Open this summer.

I think him and Alex are their weakest links so far.
Alex can't handle the pressure.
He's shown over and over again from last year and this year.
SVB is barely getting by the pressure too . This is just not his specialty.

The biggest impact by far has been bringing in Johan , he's been the X factor bringing JJ was a nice touch but make no mistake about it Johan has changed the culture in preparation and mind set they not only believe they can compete but they can win because they have been well prepared for the battle

No expert here, but his second and third matches today he looked a lot better than just getting by.

I can only say that I found the pressure for shooting for your team is harder than shooting for the cash it's just a different dynamic some do well others don't

B/c Kazakis was more shaken . Gonna be up 2-1 and dogged an easy frozen rail 6 a foot away.
It went downhill for Kazakis after that.

Team Euro would've been better with Gorst or Albin. I dont like Albin but he's dead nuts in this format. Alex has issues shooting with the clock and I think it throws off his rhythm.

30K/15K guaranteed to the players is a huge chunk of of $$$.

How many games do Filler and SVB get to play? Are the coaches putting them up too early and too often? They seem to be the hottest on each team, so, okay...but are we spending our dimes too early? Shaw might smoke us on Day 4....:frown:

It's all singles on Day 4, and if the event goes long enough, everyone will play Day 4. There are restrictions on who can play what matches throughout the event. See the requirements in parentheses here: http://www.matchroompool.com/mosconi-cup/#fixtures

I question Markus choice of the sequence he sends his players out.
Kazakis needs a leader as team partner and sending him out with a shaky Feijen wasn't the best decision. Facing SvB afterwards was the deathblow to his confidence.

I like the combination of Kaci and Kazakis, but it might be to late to get Kazakis out of his hole.

I still think that Europe will lead after day 3, just to see the cup fading away on the final day. They have used up their firepower too early.
