MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

Game 4

Woodward breaks dry, leaving a potential look at the 1.

Filler cuts in the 1, and Ouschan is faced with an off-angle 2-5 combo. He takes an extension and grabs the bridge, then misses the shot but doesn't leave a shot on the 2.

Styer eyes the safe under lots of input from Woodward, and executes it perfectly.

Filler jumps over the 9, clips the 2, and leaves a long look at it through a narrow window with a partially-blocked pocket.

Woodward nails it! Styer needs to come with a tough cut on the 3 - he makes it, but spins it too much and gets way too steep on the 4. Woodward makes the extremely thin rail cut on the 4, wow! They should be out from here, but drama ensues as Styer overruns shape on the 8. Woodward recovers and they finish. What a run-out!

Score 2-2

Skyler slices the edge off the four ball to get Tyler perf on the five. They both look good this rack, 2-2

Game 5

Oushan breaks dry, leaving an easy look at the 1 and an open table.

Woodward makes the one after Styer tells him the leave "doesn't have to be perfect", and responds "yeah it does." It was perfect. 3 to the 4 is tricky, but Woodward makes it look easy with high-left. They should be out from here. The 6-7-8-9 drop, giving USA their first lead in the match.

Score 3-2 USA.

I really don't want to see Tyler in the Mosconi Cup again.

Bottles the big moments.
He reminds me of Jeremy Jones

Both had enough chances...

I don't want to be too harsh because he does seem like a great ambassador for the youth pool scene. He practices and trains hard and you can tell.

But some people just got it.

Game 6

Styer breaks and drops the 6 and 8, but Woodward has to push, and leaves a long thin rail cut on the 1. Europe gives it back, and Woodward makes a nice safe. (Wait, wasn't that two shots in a row from Woodward? Is that how order after a push-out works in doubles?)

Filler returns the favor with a beautiful safe.

Styer kicks 1-rail with spin, but CB swerve takes it into the 2 first for a foul. Ugh.

Ouschan takes ball in hand. They have some work to do on the 3 ball, but Filler leaves it perfect, and they should be out from here. They are.

Score 3-3

Game 7

Filler breaks and makes the 1 in the side. The 3 and 6 are hangers; this table should be easy. Filler's heart stops briefly as he nearly scratches in the side off the 2, but they're in shape and fine. They finish the table and enjoy the view from the hill.

Score 4-3 Europe.

Euros shoot first but USA puts up Alamo style defense. I hope the outcome is better.
