MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

On the break, yes, because that ball flying off the table was a complete random fluke. His break on that rack was pretty standard, and he did nothing that you could point to that led to the ball flying off the table. So why should he give up BIH on that?
I.... hmm, I am at a loss for words. I don't know how to reply to that!

Wolford's demeanor and swagger around the table reminds of Dennis Hatch and I love it, especially because he hasn't been choking as much as Dennis. Although he does play a tad slower. He's going to make it hill-hill and break and run to win.

Is there something you can point to that he did that was any different than other breaks that would predictably cause a ball to fly off the table? Random things happen in pool sometimes -- I don't think you should be penalized for them.

Game 8

Alcaide breaks dry and there's a good look at the 1, but it's long and straight and getting back to the 2 at the other end is nearly impossible with the CB almost against the rail.

Wolford elects to manufacture an angle and play it with force follow, and he nails it with perfect shape! What a stroke! Six of the seven remaining balls are under the foot string and will require precision shape. He lines up a tough cut on the 4 in the side and center-cuts it. 5 to the 6 is tricky and he hits it perfect again! This dude can play! He gets a little steep on the 7, but it's close to the bottom corner with easy shape on the 8. He makes it with a nice angle on the 8, just one more good leave to make it hill-hill. He does it! Hill-Hill!

Score 4-4

"MICHAEL, I THINK WE'VE GOT ACTION"

The pressure this kid must be feelin right now. In my eyes, he's a warrior.

sometimes you break perfect, park whitey and get it kicked in. that's just as random

Even if we win this one and the next one, USA that is....... (Tyler will blow it and lose his match). He will butcher his match I hope we win the next two just to prove a point.

This is pool! And 9ball specifically! We live and die by the fluke! Basically you are saying "Why should I be penalized for something unlucky that I did?" Do you understand how silly and unreasonable that sounds?

There's always going to be some luck in pool, but most fans would probably agree that better rules minimize the effect of luck, not maximize it. You can never remove it completely, but I think a better rule in this situation would be to just spot the ball that flew off the table, rather than give your opponent BIH for what is essentially a good break.
