MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

Game 5

Woodward breaks and drops the 9 in the bottom corner with a suspense-filled slow roll, the second golden-break of the Cup. Yes!

Score is 4-1 Shaw.

Sky after his golden break.

Despite what some may say, that excitement is the reason this event isn't going anywhere. Well that, and the venues continue to sell out.

Jayson is really prancing now, as if this rack is a foregone conclusion after the break. And it was!

Game 6

Shaw breaks and makes the 1 in the side. Has an table-length shot on the 2 which is hanging in the corner, and gets perfect on the 3. Should be out from here. He has a big grin on his face even as he's down over each shot. OOPS! He gets sloppy on the 7 to the 8 and nearly hooks the CB behind the 9. But he's fine, and drops the 8 and 9.

Shaw wins the match 5-1. Sky is 1-10 in his two singles matches, having been beat by Filler 5-0 on day 1.

Matchroom will be furious.

This is not entertainment and the fans tomorrow are going to be ripped off. Nobody is going to buy day 4 tickets of the Mosconi Cup ever again.

I think Matchroom will change this event to North America vs Europe from next year.

Alex Pagulayan and John Morra are needed to try and make this competitive.

I really don't think Morra is good enough and Pagulayan's game is not what it used to be...although he'd be pretty entertaining.

I sure wish I could hear the conversation Emily is having with Barry at the moment.

In place of who though? SVB is Americas best player but has been terrible for years in this, Sky our best mosconi player the past few years is getting rolled and Gorst hasn’t helped any. They still get rolled with those 2 guys.

That's on them for a poorly planned event.

Reminds me of the Denver Nuggets when they planned an event at their arena and the team made the playoffs but nowhere to play. You need to plan for things to happen.

Morra is a 794FR and #62 in the world, above Styer and Wolford (neither of whom are in the top 100). Alex is an 813FR and #26 in the world, above Woodward at #30, which would make him the 3rd strongest player on the team this year.

Perhaps they haven't had the greatest recent results, but hard to argue that they wouldn't be at least as good as Woodward, and Alex would likely be better.

Ok. I get it. The Euro's are better. They're even better at rubbing it in. I love watching and rooting for great players but it getting really hard to root for them during the year.

The one thing that pains me when Europe win is their ownership of Willie Mosconi, an American legend, and parading his name around like he is theirs.

The name Mosconi belongs to them because of this.

Barry Hearn said Mosconi Cup in 5 years will be played in an arena that holds 20,000.

Sounds like the Mosconi Cup is going nowhere.

Barry has said Americans need to travel on the tour. He said too many Americans are happy to stay in the USA.

So nice to see Barry Hearn out there. He is still passionate about pool, 9-Ball in particular, and offers a great dissertation about the difference between Team Europe and Team USA. What a wonderful speaker he is and never at a loss for words. Simply put, great man and a Godsend for Pool!
