I plan to be in Vegas on Dec. 13-16 for the Mosconi Cup. It's being held at the MGM. Will probably be attending a few sessions with Fatboy (and then playing some Banks afterwards :)).

If any of you are going to be in town, let me know and we can meet up. Should be an exciting event and a lot of fun. I'll try to be as inconspicuous as possible when Earl is playing. If he misses a shot, it will be all my fault, naturally.

Dcc Or Mosconi?

Really that is a no brainer! I have been to both and The Derby gives The Mosconi Cup the SEVEN OUT! But hey if you like to watch great pool and hear a bunch of Euros scream like hell for there guys and not bet a Freakin 20 dollar Bill is a joke! Jay have a great time and if I can squezze in a couple of days to slide up there I will but I will be at DCC for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is anyone setting up shop during this event? i know its only 3 days and all but i'm hoping.

I won't be able to attend, but I am looking forward to reading all about it!

Team USA will prevail. Last year, wasn't it a tie?

Well, this year will be the tie-breaker, I guess.

I hope the American spectators bring air horns, drums, flags, and kazoos to the venue site.

We sure want Team Europe to feel at home, here on our soil: http://youtube.com/watch?v=fyLcGY4twOE

New Breaking Rules in Place

Soft Break Set To Go
Matchroom Sport can announce that they have imposed some new rules on the break shot for the 14th annual PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup which takes place at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas from Thursday 13 ? Friday 16 December.
With the soft break starting to dominate under present racking conditions, it was felt that a change was required in order to bring back the power break, for so long one of the biggest and best parts of the game.
After consultation with both teams, the following conditions will apply on all break shots in all matches at the Mosconi Cup:

1. The balls will be racked higher up the table with the 9 ball resting on the spot.
2. The cue ball must be struck from within a break box in the centre of the table.
3. On completion of the break shot, three balls must pass the headstring. This does not include the cue ball. Pocketed balls count, therefore if a breaking player made one ball on the break, only two would be required to pass the headstring. Balls are not required to come to rest past the headstring so a ball that strikes the rail and returns across the head string back down table would be a legal ball.
4. The rack will be lightly tapped in as per WPA guidelines.

The penalty for not making a legal break shot under the above conditions will be loss of visit with the incoming player or team playing the table as it lies.

Commented a spokesman for Matchroom Sport, ?All the players are in favour of this development as it will bring back more skill and power to the break.

?The soft break itself is highly skillful but a little too predictable to give fans and viewers the true 9 ball experience.

?With tight pockets too, an automatic ball on the break will be no certainty. I?m sure all the players will be studying the best way to break and some will be more successful than others.?

I like having Corey Deuel on my team in this scenario. No one can figure out how to break better than him.

And you know who's second best? Earl! He is a master of the break shot as well. And Johnny ain't too shabby either. Score a point for USA here.

JAY, IF PEARL GOES NUTS, I WILL HAVE MY "BAT CANE" THERE TO PROTECT THE SANE. "TALK SOFTLY BUT CARRY A BIG STICK".

What's the line?

USA to win....
Earl to lose...
SVB to win...
Corey to always make a ball on the break...
Europe to be first to break and run a rack...

Edit, odds to win posted on Stan James
USA 4/11
Europe 15/8
USA the favorite by 3

I like the Europe side of that at 15/8
