Mosconi cup and EARL

I just watched a segment with Immonen vs Earl. Earl got white washed 5-0. But his antics were an embarassment to watch. He got involved again with fans and comments, giving the "finger" twice to the fans and throwing something into the stands. He was under escort while leaving the arena. Is this our " USA TEAM" ? Is this how we want to be represented in the world.? There are many threads on this forum about the future of pool. Watch Earl representing the USA and answer that question for yourself. He has talent, he just needs to be put back on a better track. If any of you are friends with Earl, please save this man before he really goes off.

He is invited to the MC so he CAN go off for the fans. If he had the demeanor of Louie Ulrich, he wouldnt be invited. Sad but true.

Earl was in a good mood and having a laugh and banter with the fans, until it seemed like one twat in the crowd said something no doubt nasty, which sharked earl - then he missed that medium length one ball.

and to be honest it was his only chance in the match apart from one half chance he had at a 1-9 carom.

and he politely applauded Mika's play a number of times and congratulated him in the end i think, and it seemed Mika made a rude gesture to him when Earl turned his back... and Earl gave the crowd the finger - what's so bad about that lol.

mika was just on fire and in a race to five, I don't think anybody on the planet would have fared much better against him then.

Mika's just oozing pure awesomeness right now. That aura alone is enough to make his opponents miss.

That was amazing.

And I'm not even talking about Mika's flawless play....but instead that hilarious montage of Earl before the match. That was the best segment I've ever seen. I was killing myself laughing. Earl is the best for pure entertainment.

Earl is just doing what they pay him for and that is being Earl.

I can think of more than a few American players with a strong claim to Earl's spot based on performance during the last year but as has been stated above it has nothing to do with that. It is about putting asses in seats and in Europe Earl does that better than any other American.

I personally see Earl as the Ric Flair of Team USA. Seriously , I want to see Earl in a red sequined ring coat and boa walk up to Jerry Forsyth, grab the mic and say "WOOOOooooooOOOOO......Let me tell you something Jerry....To be the man you got to beat the man......You got to walk that aisle.......WOooooOOOO"

I think that would be pretty cool and it would drive the Euro's batshit, which is always nice.

Ya know what... after reading these comments I am truly sorry I started this post. It's clear all these posters are saying Earl is equivalent to a clown with a pool cue and I was truly concerned for the guy. If he is getting paid to act this way then that's up to him. So then I guess the Mosconi Cup isn't on the "square" either. Hustling is worldwide.

Moderators... feel free to delete the thread.

Earl is Earl... and everyone know what can happen. I think it's ironic that many think Earl just goes off for "no reason at all" just walking in the park having a ice cream and then WHAMMO he's in the clock tower with a rifle....

I'm sure the crowd was taunting him (as usual) Some of it is "percieved" and amplified by earl, some of it is actually rude, insulting, and designed to get a reaction.

He does fill seats! What he did to Drago is a perfect example of why people pay and stay to watch him play( didn't mean to ryme so well) I love Earl, he's a fine player, VERY volatile! But we all know that, Team USA knows that... it is what it is. I DO think that the Europeans take a great deal of joy in TRYING to get him to go off. Unfortunately he ususally doesn't disappoint

BTW I think Mika played him extraordinarily well, BUT I still can't stand that guy (flavored with a little personal history) IMO he's not NEARLY as nice as he tries to come off

Flame away!

NO its not...... but what is your point or are you just a jackass?

My point is you are typical of many people who make a point and then cry and throw your toys out of the pram when others don't agree with you. Very much like Earl.

:D

Mika has owned Earl for years. Even in his off years, he still beat Earl. Tony Crosby is another one. I think he beat Earl the last 7 outa 7.

It's a bit surprising the US team put Earl forward in the last match, bearing in mind Europe were bound to play Immonen. Maybe they thought in a short race to five match, Earl might be able to find the inspiration to win.

Agree 100%. Mika is the ONLY pro player that I don't care for. I'll take any and all of Earl's antics any day over Mika's arrogance and smugness. Mika is my least favorite player ever. He's a very talented and great player, but his personality rubs many the wrong way.

Earl is always a gentleman until some moron provokes him. After years of that, it's no wonder he goes off. The refs will give the obligatory "Quiet please" but do nothing to protect Earl from the instigators. I blame them for not controling the enviroment better. Would they as easily tolerate someone else being so singled out?

I see Earl clapping for his opponants often. Can't remember any of them being as sincere in reciprocating. Especially someone as conceited as Immonen.

Yes, I've seen him do that too - especially when they scratch on the break...

Immonen is a cold fish but a lot of Scandinavians are like that. Probably quite a nice person if you got to know him. In my experience Scandinavians are cold fish - and they drink like fish too!

Mika took accountability for losing the pairs match beforehand, saying that he felt that he was to blame for the loss. I seriously doubt many players would have taken responsibility like that.....especially not Earl.

Anyway, I respect your opinion....not everyone has to like him. I just wanted to point out that he's not the villain that your post made him out to be. :)
