23rd May | 2012 US Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest

It's Shane followed by Dechaine and Hatch

THE RACE for the second automatic spot on the 2012 American Mosconi Cup team is shaping up into a two-way dog fight between Mike Dechaine and Dennis Hatch following the US Open Ten Ball Championship in Las Vegas which concluded on Saturday May 19th.

Both players had high finishes with Dechaine placing 4th to move into third spot and Hatch finishing 5th/6th to take second position. Just a single point separates them and they lead fourth placed Stevie Moore by 30 points.

Dechaine made his Mosconi Cup debut in Las Vegas last year and performed well in a losing side, while Hatch grabbed MVP honours in his first ever Mosconi in 2009 and acquitted himself well at the York Hall the following year.

Standing at the top of the rankings is Shane van Boening and the South Dakota Kid looks a racing certainty to make the side as he towers above his countrymen by a whopping 130 points.

With just two more events left in the five tournament series - Turning Stone Classic in August and the US Open 9-Ball Championships in October – the chasing pack will need to come good if they are to claim one of the top two automatic places.

Points in the series are allocated as per the BCA Points List and each event is weighted depending on total purse, size of field and number of top-ranked players competing.

Only players finishing in the last 32 of each event will be allocated points and at the conclusion, after the 2012 US Open, the top two players will automatically gain entry to the Mosconi Cup side.

The remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this.

The Ranking
1. Shane Van Boening 332.5
2. Dennis Hatch 203
3. Mike Dechaine 202
4. Stevie Moore 172
5. Rodney Morris 144
T6. Mike Davis 139.5
T6. Oscar Dominguez 139.5
8. Brandon Shuff 115
9. Corey Deuel 99
10. Earl Strickland 88.5
11. Louis Ulrich 85
T12. Ryan McCreesh 77
T12. Johnny Archer 77
14. Robb Saez 71.5
15. Brian Brekke 68.5

Do you think that Mike and Hatch playing together will be good for the team??

I dont want to throw gas on this idea but just curious what people think may happen...

TBH I would really like to see Shuff in this years cup :thumbup2:

I would love to see Brandon Shuff in the Mosconi Cup this year! He's such a professional guy, about his game, his behavior, and has a ton of heart! He'd make a great teammate.

Good luck to Shuff in those last two events!

Brian in VA

I would

like to see Oscar on the team. He plays well, and he won some great matches in Vegas.

So nobody has anything to say about the Mosconi Cup race???

There's not that much to talk about yet since only 3 of 5 points events have been played and the next one, TS, isn't until August. Obviously Shane will be on the team. Even after the US Open the team make up will still be mostly uncertain as only the top two in points are automatic. The remaining 3 are Matchroom picks.

article says after 2012 is when only the first two will be automatic.

doubt dechaine will make the list since he is skipping the us open.

Why is he skipping the U.S. Open? That's just silly!

That could be throwing away 15k, doesn't make any sense especially if you are a professional pool player.

Where did you hear that, I don't believe it.

That's just what he said. "The remaining three are Matchroom picks"
The last line!

Well, not sure what to say but here's from the Matchroom website:

USA Ranking System, 2012 Mosconi Cup

The American Mosconi Cup Ranking will consist of five events - all taking place within the USA.

Only players finishing in the last 32 of each event will be allocated points and at the conclusion, after the 2012 US Open, the top two players will automatically gain entry to the Mosconi Cup side. IThe remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this. Additional as yet unannounced events may be added to this list provided they fulfil the criteria.

Here's the link (searched for 2012 Mosconi Cup):

http://www.matchroompool.com/page/MosconiCup/QualificationSystem/0,,12660,00.html

The page is dated 2009 but the text definitely labels the criteria as for 2012.

What I'd really like to hear about is getting a new CAPTAIN for the U.S. TEAM! To many people don't like Charlie Williams, myself included.
So if they are going to use him as captain again it takes any excitement out of it for me, probably won't even watch.

Yes, the Captain discussion is an interesting one though based on last year I don't think Matchroom takes much of what we say into account. I'm sure it will be a hot topic as soon as they announce it though.

I'm not saying Archer is out of the race, but if he doesn't make team some how, he should be captain!!

archer has been on the USA team for over 10 years will be shocked if he don.t make it an yes i agree archer should be captain

As things stand currently:

Mike Dechaine is scheduled to be part of Team USA for the World Cup of Trick Shots at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on Thursday, October 25. Unfortunately, that's also the week of the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.

Mike even said as much on the TAR podcast, he didn't think he'd be making the Cup team this year because he'd be missing one event.

We did an interview with Mike yesterday for the next Runout Radio, and he did confirm that he was not playing the US Open.

Mike
