Mosconi Cup Coverage = F- Total Crap

And you guys are wondering why mens pool isn't gaining popularity. The one hour show many people have been waiting for was a total and complete disaster. If you like pool, there was nothing to watch. And it took liking pool to get anything at all out of the coverage. If you don't like pool, you wouldn't have watched for 2 minutes. Here we are in a game during a 4-2 match and this guy here is going to run out from the 3 ball. Ooooh. Aaaaah. Now onto the next match at 4-3 and the guy here shooting at the two ball. That was a total joke. Worse than no coverage.

And the players. Ugly clothes with bad ad stickers or patches stuck on. Not even professionally done. All kinds of weird mannerisms. The gross looking players on Late Night Poker are kind of funny, but it doesn't come across in pool the way they cover it. And Earl's dance was disgusting. His opponent made a mistake shaking his hand.

Men's pool could not have looked worse. There is a long way to go folks.

I think F- is way too high a grade. Unbelievably little pool was shown (part of one game, commercial, part of one game, another commercial, etc...). At least they didn't show much breaking and pushing out. It looked like a very entertaining and exciting event, but you sure couldn't get into it through their coverage. If even hardcore pool fanatics thought it was drivel, I suspect the general public will think even less of it. They didn't do any better for pool than ESPN does

(I'm always amazed at the way ESPN edits matches by eliminating whole games, and then subjecting us to breaks, push outs, safety battles. I thought we had to have 9-Ball on T.V. because it was fast paced and exciting. For championship players these parts of the game - though important - are not fast paced and exciting, they just showcase what a stupid game 9 Ball is. It becomes apparent to even the casual observer that luck is way too important. End of screed.)

I just got done watching it on USA I think. It was awful. Even the color of the cloth on the table was drab. I'm beginning to wonder if pool will ever do well on TV!

Am i the only one that's sick of this constant *****ing about espn's coverage of pool? Yes it's far from perfect and in some ways they impede the progress of pool, but they are showing pool, that is the main thing, some pool on tv is better than no pool on tv at all, this is common sense, if you don't like it don't watch it, i personally really liked the mosconi cup coverage, they are playing for pride mainly, and you can tell that they are really nervous, at least they are trying, i have noticed that all most people do is sit and ***** about this and ***** about that, then they wonder why pool is the best game to play, yet it has 0 integrity, and 0 mainstream sports appeal. I would sit and happily watch the reruns of the mosconi cup, hell i might even tape them and watch them after that. If you didn't like the coverage of the cup i really wonder if u like pool at all. I hope someone from espn see's all this and they quit showing pool all together, and anytime someone tries to organise anything to do with pool automatically they are a greedy no good back stabbing criminal. That is the only consitency with pool is that neither the players or the true fans will ever agree on ANYTHING, hate to be blunt and str8 to the point but this happens over and over and over!

Yeah you must be the only one Johnson, people have a valid complaint and ya know what, no pool at all is better then a lame terrible production that makes our sport look like absolute crap. I would rather ESPN just packed up and shoved off if this is what they are going to make our sport look like. Their dogshit productions make US look bad and any other TV network that looks at ESPN's numbers for pool are going to think it is the sports fault for not pulling in any viewers when it is the inept coverage. Furthermore any person who happens onto that show and gives pool on TV a try is going to be turned off the sport for the rest of their life due to the terrible state and boring game that ESPN makes it look like. If you cannot do a job right then just don't do it at all.

Mosconi Cup

I watched the Mosconi Cup on BCn on my pc and it was great! To watch what was on TV today didn't compare at all. If I hadn't seen the telecast on BCn, I probably would have thought that what I saw on TV today was so bad. In England, they love snooker and apparently pool too. They put a lot more money into it and a lot more enthusiasm. It's tough to see what could be but isn't here in this country.

This was a first billiard showing on that particular fox net work. The one hour presentation was a bit condensed but they didnt have much of a choice. Pool is boring for most people to watch on tv to begin with. It is just a start guys, is has taken alot of complaining and letters to get what we have.

I love pool, but that show was a waste of time. I personally don't care if they show pool on TV at all, I can get a lot more pool per unit time by watching Accustats. All the complainers (myself included) should support Accustats (by buying, not by trading or copying).

P.S. - Any person enjoying that coverage has way too much time on their hands, you could have condensed all the shots easily into 5 minutes. I would rather play pool than watch the limited action they showed.

Couldnt agree with you more WilleB. I just ordered all the one pocket tapes from this years Derby and the ring games. Pat gave me a nice discount for bulk buying. I know I could get away with buying a few and trading with friends for the other copies. But I wanted to totally support Pat and AccuStats. What he has and is doing for pool words cannot express.

He just told me that he is thinking about doing a straight pool tournament type of thing that he did for 8 ball a couple of years ago. Just so he can get more straight pool matches on tape. This would be the nuts.

Yo,
Good for you. AccuStats is a tremendous resource. The straight pool tapes are tremendous, I especially enjoy the ones with Pat Fleming playing - his acute angle break shots give me an ulcer just watching.

I was there for the opening and I lost interest due to the insincerity and cage rattling. I thought I was at a WWF event with USA vs. Europe. The players were encouraged to show/simulate team spirit and solidarity. Lucky it was in Vegas and I got more satisfaction losing money gambling.

I guess if you condense cr*p for TV - you still have ...
