Mosconi Cup, day 4

No Excuse for the Americans period if you ask me. Europe has just gotten to strong. U.S has lost its dominance in pool for some time now.

U.S just needs some new blood to take over. No offense to double J but I could think of atleast 3-5 guys that would be a better choice than him. I also think they should really let Strickland go. His antics will not help the team spirit at all.

Maybe next year, they should have a Team Canada versus Team Europe. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Would be a great opportunity for an air horn vendor in Vegas next year.

Com'on JAM, get over it. Bring a whole marching band if you like, I would be surprised if any of the Euro players shoot off and show their finger and acting stupid because of this ...

Last post on the subject from me. I leave the never ending debate..

Canada doesn't have the players to compete with the United states. The only great 9 ball player Canada has really had is Alex P. Their just isn't enough talent to have a team Canada vs other countries. Canada is very small compared to the U.S. Canada has something like only 40million people where as the U.S is over 300million.

Although Canada would own U.S in any Snooker tournaments ;)

I am reminded of the World Pool Champion, who was a member of Team Europe, throwing a baby pacifier at Earl Strickland at the last Mosconi Cup when it was held in Vegas. You're right, though, they didn't show their finger or act stupid.

And a one and a two...

He he he, JAM you have me laughing  Great band...

If you read this whole thread about last Mosconis Earl episode I think you would find that many of you're countrymen was pretty embarrassed about a certain US person and the whole thing was fueled by a certain mans behavior.

Anyway, I swear - this is the last post on the topic - I'm going to shoot some pool now after some inspiration from the Euro team:happydance:

As long as Jam keeps posting and getting the last word in I don't think this will be your last post in the topic...

Of course, you're last-word contributions on threads are quite helpful, as usual.

Usually, the Europeans throw things in the ring where the TV table is, while their counterparts are stomping their feet, screaming at the top of their lungs, and blowing air horns.

Of course, if the Americans exhibited this behavior, the anti-American contituency of European fierce wild dogs would rip 'em apart if they even so much as twitched while in the TV table arena.
And you can blame this on one person...........EARL.

I'm an American and a big fan of American pool, but I'm not blind. European pool has passed American pool, and rather than making excuses, Americans should use the many setbacks of the past few years as motivation.

Let face it, a European B-team of Hohmann, Appleton, Peach, Chamat, and Ortmann would probably have beaten this American team, too. A European C-team of Stepanov, Stalev, Hundal, Alcaide, and Petroni would have had a pretty reasonable shot, too.

American pro pool may return to prominence one of these days, but for now, it's best to say "well played" to our very worthy European opponents.

.......then again, let's not mistake this event for the Ryder Cup, where each team tries to field its best possible team. As long as Earl is a member of Team America, it's tough to think of this team as representing America's best.

I am a bad loser, but an even worse winner:)

How about a Europe D team of Jasmin Ouschan, Thomas Engert, Nick van den Berg, Vilmos Foldes and Christian Reimering? ;)

But, if the American's had used players such as Corey Deuel, John Schmidt and Danny Harriman, I think they would have done better. (better is the keyword here, I didn't say they would win) :D

I disagree with your observations, Stu, but that's okay. This forum is a place where folks can express their views and opinions.

As such, the continual blame of Earl Strickland for losing is getting old. Sorry, but that is my opinion.

I will support and root for the American team every single time until the day I die.

Agreed Stu, but there is something else going on here and it is called "chemistry". It is the ingredient that makes winning teams. You either got it or you don't. I don't think the USA team has had that chemistry the last couple of years, although Shane and Rodney did in The World Cup. And they didn't do so bad.

Our players CAN still win. There are a lot of very talented players on our shores. But we need some input in making up the best team. As long as Matchroom chooses for us, it's gonna be tough.

Very good point.

Let me put together a team of Shane, Dennis Hatch, Rodney, Stevie Moore and John Schmidt and let's see what happens next year. We need to shake it up a little. I'd have these guys so fired up, they would be foaming at the mouth! :D

Oh and one other thing, I feel sorry for the first guy who mouths off to Dennis. In fact I feel sorry for the first five guys who mouth off to him. I like having some 'muscle' on our team. :)

usa seemed to not be as mentally strong as europe. people go on about europe having the better pool of players but earl despite people critisising him always can be relied on to play REALLY well. you can't deny it, he does.

shane is arguably the best player in the world right now, archer is an absolute legend also who is rock solid and as good as anybody on the planet, JJ is a very strong player and rodney can beat anyone.

especially considering the short race to five format - it's not that europe have a particularly stronger team. it's the psychological side of things. earl was in a great mood and seemed to be feeling great, but not having a single good roll and being called a turd seemed to flip him - arguably somewhat understandably. he didnt even get a sniff of a chance really against mika. shane apparently bottled a couple of chances which is unlike him as well, and archer missed a few balls he would never have normally.

Europe played great and deserved the win, but from America's point of view it kind of seemed like they were destined to lose. :(

I like that team. Earl probably isn't in the top 20 in the US anymore and Jeremy shouldnt have been on the team either. I'd also take a look at Corey and Gabe. Given the right circumstance, they both have a lot of fire and heart, but as you say, the chemistry hasn't been there during the last 2 years.

i would love to see the mosconi cup change up the games other than 9 ball in the matches. How cool would it be to watch a straight pool match between Ralf and John Schmidt or some one pocket action with Gabe.
