Mosconi Cup is Becoming a Circus

I love the pool. I even think the commentary is fine. But all that hooting and shouting is stupid and pointless. And all that exaggerated King Kong posing after every match victory. And Dennis Hatch shadow boxing with an American flag hoodie and Jayson Shaw wearing an eagle head into the arena!!!

The Mosconi Cup is becoming the WWF of billiards. What’s next? Body slamming your opponent on the game table?

Enough! Stop the stupid antics and just play pool.

Agreed. Whip em the old fashioned way. Play em for it.

I was dismayed when Team US arrived on day one wearing masks. I bet a couple wish they still had them on.

The good thing coming out of the Mosconi Cup this year is look at how much attention pool is getting again.

Look at this forum as an example. We're all hyped up, talking about pool, instead of who's the best and what aiming strategy works, et cetera.

The Mosconi Cup makes pool great again, as far as I'm concerned. I love that piece of it. :)

World Darts Championships prize fund is $1.5 million.
Mosconi Cup is $150 K

The crowd is not yelling during the shots this year.

I guess Matchroom gave some instructions.

This forum is no reflection of what the general public thinks about pool. Sorry to let ya know that. :thumbup2:

The Mosconi Cup is the only "billiards event" I know of where boorish behavior is expected and often times encouraged. Pool Hooliganism I call it.

It does nothing to help the positive view of pool for most folks. Vince McMahon should replace Barry Hearn as the head honcho.

I agree. I play on a team and I don’t do any celebrating or talking with the team until the match is done. I want to get into a zone and stay in that zone during the match. At the end, win or lose I immediately shake my opponents hand and then a fist bump with teammates but no excessive celebrations.

To each their own buts that’s me.

Let's face it , the Mosconi Cup is meant to make pool a spectator sport. They love the antics because it makes it fun for the non pool playing community. Otherwise it's a borefest for non pool lovers. Don't see a change coming.

I got some news for you....it IS a circus..it aint the World 9-ball or the US Open.
...it's good for the game to have this once a year.

..and I would like the pool players getting paid like the WWF

Let's make it speed pool and have Mike Massey do trick shots. It's certainly not a real competition.

This was illuminating info. Thanks.

This really puts a new light for me on all the excessive celebration. I was thinking it was poor sportsmanship by Filler and Shaw and Dennis but the rivalry and bad blood angle could be the way to build interest and viewership of the event.

Not my cup of tea.

I tuned in twice yesterday and the antics turned my stomach, so I turned it off both times after the conclusion of the game that was in progress.:frown:

Well said.

If I never see or hear another discussion about aiming strategies ever again I would be a happy man.

That has been standard for as long as I've been attending. Usually there is silence when the player is finally down on the shot. Occasionally there is some noise close to the stroke, but the refs do work to stop that.

As for the watchability, I find it very entertaining. It's different from most competitions -- and it is a competition -- but it is fun. It would be more fun if the US won more.
