Mosconi Cup Meltdown

there was no lay-off, they got beat. I was there with full access credentials, saw more than I can talk about. But I will state for the record it was 100% on the square, some guys had $$$ on the Team USA -2 points and lost hard, that $$$ was gone yesterday so today they needed the win even more. I wont name names but thats what happened. No one was happy afterwards except Earl because he won his match, but thats a streach to say he was happy about losing-he wasnt either. They were all sick. Not all pool is fraud or dumping.

Is this not the dumbest thread you've ever read???? I guess Gomez lost the wpc on purpose to make a payday by betting on himself, and Archer did the same last week. Any time any player loses in a tourny its because he dumped to score a big payday.

What a joke.

Team USA lost because they dumped the match ? LOL. That must be one of the most ridiculous excuse and a conspiracy theory I've heard so far at the AzB  :o There seem to be too many ppl refusing to admit that team USA lost because they weren't performing at all. In other words, they sucked. This time team Europe was better. Sorry. ;) :D

Let's not forget...

Drago played like a madman!
The guy pretty much handed the American's their 'arse' single handedly...Archer had a chance to get there but he missed a huge 9-ball...which I'm sure he will be sick about. This was pretty much the final straw...
And from watching the match I'd have to say the US Team just got beat...they played poorly, and they broke poorly while team Europe played great and got the rolls...when you combine all those factors along with the short races, I don't care who you are, you're going to get beat!

my 2c:

people always complain about earl buing a disgrace for the sport etc, and that he does more damage to the sport then good...

it seems that evertime a us player or team doesnt win, it takes around 1 minut before a tread is filled with conspiracy theories, and dumping. Being a bad loser and posting it all over the forum does more bad then earl can ever do with one handshake or on shaft to sport. think about THAT!!.

who is the better player? constantin considered the weak spot won vs reyes and bustamanta lately. does this mean reyes dumped? or that constantin is just the better player? who knowes, the fact is, he won those matches, and should get every credit for it! same aply's to the musconi cup.

i honestly think that people who post this should be put in the same bracket as earl...

be sportive ffs!!. put the same players again and let them do a musconi rematch and maybe usa will win, or maybe not. will you be posting then that usa' dominance can't be denied?

comong guys, euro won this year, usa won last year. stop all the bs around it, and just give credit where credit was due.

if people would call me a dumper every time i had a bad day off! my reputation would be below zeo !!.

gratz to the winner, and im sorry usa didnt put there A game out. thats it.

this post makes me sick, and really DOES more damage then good to the sport!

You gotta think that after that ass whooping that USA put on Europe on the first day and the odds went through the roof at 20-1, that there was a lot of temptation to lay off some bets and throw it. Then when it looked too much like they were throwing it, all of a suddent they start to make the comeback of the friggin century. I'm not saying that that is what they did, but someone with a brain has to think and be willing to admit that the temptation must be there.....

That ain't what happened!

The USA took a downard turn after that meal at the Japanese restaurant with Fatboy and Jay. What did you guys say to the team? (J/K BTW)

We went to dinner the night that Team Europe had just went 4-1 to tie the match at 5-5. At the dinner Kim made a game plan and a schedule that made sense for the next day. All present agreed to it, except for Earl who was not there.

The next day, the entire schedule/line up had changed. It was obvious to me that Earl had been unhappy with the line up the way it was. But that is the way it was all week. There were four players on the USA team and then there was Earl.

Tap, Tap. Tap!!!

IMO, The Americans have forgotten how to win and seem to fold under any pressure anymore.

We have on infantile ego maniac on the team who should step down, but, never will. He is so consumed with excuses that he never thinks about how to play the game. He has excuses in line before he misses the shot.

Earl is an emotional basket case and the US needs to quit making excuses for him and his childish behavior.

Thanks, I'm glad I didn't have to say this. I could say much more but I'd rather not. I said it all a long time ago and no one wanted to believe me then.

I didn't feel good about thinking that.

What a joke.

The fact that I did shows what state that pool in America has gotten to, and I don't think that everytime someone loses they layed down. I know the volatility of the game, hell I just know the game, but when the odds are 20-1, it makes you wonder, exdpecially considering how dominant the USA was on that first day.... I know that team Europe had played a little badly on that first day and you could right a lot of that bad play off to nerves and first day jitters, and like I said I was watching the whole thing with the exception of Saturday and I didn't see much that could've been considered a lay down, it's just funny that the losing streak happened to occur RIGHT after the odds went through the roof and that's all I was saying.

I'm not making excuses or setting up conspiracy theories.

This is now starting to piss me off, especially all these friggin Euro trashes that throw around conspiracy theory Bull $h!T.... I DID NOT say that I thought it was a conspiracy or that I thought every time an american lost they were throwing it.

I only pointed out that the americans were dominating and then when the odds went through the roof, they all of a sudden tanked.

That first night when I heard that the odds went to 20-1, I couldn't help thinking that man there are probably a lot of high rollers in Vegas that would give anything to make sure that the Euros would win and then even after the second day it didn't cross my mind again, it wasn't until the third day that I thought it was possible that that was what happened. That's why I paid close attention to what was going on and I will emphatically say again, I DO NOT THINK THAT THE USA THREW IT......
PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe I stated that in one of my first posts on the subject. I know that the European players are excellent players and that the past dominance of the american team in the mosconi has been more due to a mental mindset by the Euros and that it is a crapshoot just about everytime. IT's good competition and I love to watch it but come on, no one can say that with 20-1 odds in VEGAS of all places that there wouldn't be high rollers that would want to try to get the US team to throw it. As I've already said that would be either naivete, self made blindness, or stupidity.

Again I don't think that that is what happened I only postulated the possibility.

I was thinking the same thing.

I was going to ask, what did you feed them?

In a nutshell, it went like this. Team Captain Johann surprised everyone when he put Drago in two singles matches on day two. This appeared to play right into U.S. hands. but when Tony came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat Rodney 6-5, it was the spark that ignited Team Europe.

I must give credit to Team USA. They never gave up, considering the dissension within their ranks. They had more to overcome than just Team Europe. And they actually had a chance on day four. If Johnny wins that match with Drago, they only trail 9-8. He had all the momentum going his way and then he bricked an easy 9 ball, and all the air went out of his tires.

After he lost, you knew it was over.

Now, if we could only win the world cup of soccer.
There's no such thing Joey. There's just the World Cup. Nobody would enter a world cup of soccer competition because it would conflict with the World Cup qualifiers.

You keep insisting about that 20-1 odds Jaden, that doesn't mean if the US team lost, you will get paid 20-1.
The odds was 8-1 to for Team Europe after day 1, don't make it look like an irresistible temptation for Team USA
to take a dive, and we've read it from people who were "THERE" first hand, no hanky-panky whatsoever...

I am an American, and I will say we were out played in every way this year. Thats pool. We (America) will give them hell next year. The Euros just played better than us this year. I have no doubt this will make for a better Mosconi Cup next year.

Tim.
