My guess is they make decent profit for sure but not awesome profit.
But it is still peanuts compared to what they make in their other sports like boxing (recently signed billion dollar deal in US to broadcast number of fights).
If it was mega profit, they would have launched Matchroom World Tour like snooker world tour.
Viewership numbers have grown for sure which is what they keep saying but not those eye popping numbers that will give them programming slot in major sports network.
Regardless, Matchroom is doing hell of a job and a big positive for pool. No other promoter puts live pool on cable TV
Tell me something, does Matchroom put up the prize money??

They are the promoters if that's what you mean, and as such are responsible for the prize money. Not sure what you're getting out. Maybe you could spell it out for us.

Players put up $256,000 in entry fees, CSI and Mark Griffin add the $50,000 additional....how much above that does Matchroom kick in for the exclusive distribution rights to the US Open 9B?

How many questions like this did you ask when Barry Behrman was running the U.S. Open, and players had to sweat getting paid every year? How should I/we know how Matchroom conducts their business? And why? I say more power to them if the can make a profit running a major pool tournament with decent prize money where everyone gets paid promptly.

By the way you do know they are increasing the added money substantially next year. You might want to check that out to, to see where that money is coming from. As for me, I hope they get a million dollars in sponsorship and TV money. Then maybe the tournament will pay out $500,000 with 100K on top. Of course some people would still complain. :grin-square:

If you are truly concerned about all this kind of stuff. I would suggest you finally put on your own tournament and pay all the expenses involved, including the prize money. I've been there and gone deep in my pocket to make good on the prize money, so I can speak from experience. You also might want to ask about the upcoming "World 9-Ball Championship" In Qatar where the prize money has been decreased. This in a country full of super wealthy people where a million dollars is a drop in the bucket. Or maybe question the WPA about some of their past "sanctioned" events where players were either not paid, paid late or only paid partially.

Matchroom has a stellar history in the pool world and the reputation to go with it. That is one reason their events are so successful. When you can put on a $300,000 tournament and pay everyone immediately, then you will be in position to question others motives.

I don't think CSI contributed anything to the prize fund for the US Open. CSI did hold a different event (64 players, $50,000 added) just prior to the US Open -- the WPA Players Champinship -- won by Kevin Cheng.

Mark Griffin sold CSI and even still CSI is not the promoter for the US Open 9 Ball. It is all Matchroom.

You have promoter mixed up with sponsor, they're not the same.

I think he knows the difference between a promoter and a sponsor.

The question is why are you bringing up CSI in the first place in regards to 2019 US Open 9 Ball. They had nothing to do with the prize fund.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page (link below), and you can see the sponsors for the 2019 US Open 9 Ball

So to your original post — you think Mark Griffin or CSI added $50k as a “sponsor” ? You have said a lot of dumb things on AZ but that has to be the dumbest.

I asked Mark today if he added money, or if CSI did and he told me no. But someone else had told me that's where the $50k came from, so that person got the wrong information in the first place, as I verified it. Sorry, but I don't think anything if said makes me dumb, just misinformed if anything. But you can feel like I'm dumb all you want, but personally I think I'm far from it, so I really don't give a shit what you think.

Anyone that had any common sense would realize that no sponsor is going to give $50k to a pool tournament. A promoter might but a sponsor, not gonna happen in our lifetime. Maybe it doesn’t make you dumb - lacking any smarts is more like it.

Why do you say this? Sponsors are where the money comes from. Casinos, on-line poker, equipment etc are all sources that promoters use to fund tournaments. Promoters like Matchroom take a fee for putting on and running the event. Matchroom doesn't pay the prize $$ out of their own kitty. That comes from the sponsors.

Realkingcobra was pointing out the US Open 9 Ball tourney. So if you are gonna join in and critique me, stay on subject. The MC is a whole different animal when it comes to sponsors — but even still there is no way CSI gave 5 figures to be a sponsor of the event.

Well, maybe there is a way. My understanding is that CSI helped pay for the training of the US team. I can see how that might run to more than $10,000.
