mosconi cup tickets

Any reason why the usa mosconi cup years are tied to Las Vegas?
Any chance of an East coast venue in the future?

Nothing would help increase the media coverage than the bright lights of new york city. One could only dream.

Well, they are wrong. I have stayed there in the 90's and it was like the Riviera or circus circus quality.
I have stayed there the past two acs nationals and the rooms are fully renovated as is the pool area. Casino, restaurants etc
Has anyone replying on this thread actually stayed at the new Tropicana?

The whole point of TA is to help you make a decision without having to actually stay at a place. If you use it a few times it's not hard to decipher the reviews, like who is a shill, who has an axe to grind, and you just dismiss the outliers. Based upon what I've read it is not a place I would be interested in staying at. YMMV.

New York would be a good look
I think that from the viewpoint of the producer of the event, NY would not be a good choice. Huge production costs could be an issue. The question would be whether the location would allow a more attractive presentation for the broadcast that would justify the cost. I think Las Vegas wins. I think the Euros who attend prefer Vegas, but you would have to ask them.

In Europe, is the event locked into the same city? I thought it moves around from country to country.
I could be wrong.

And yes, NYC would come with a price tag to match. That's a fact.

The 21 Mosconi Cups held so far:

12 in England (including the first 9), at 4 different venues (8 at York Hall in London);
2 in the Netherlands (at 2 different venues);
1 in Malta; and
6 in Las Vegas (the first 5 at the MGM Grand, the 6th at the Mirage)

while you have a valid point, NYC is VERY expensive. $300-$400 hotels. i don't even go there to my own furniture shows. plus, the Brits LOVE Vegas. and NYC in DEC isn't exactly attractive, vs 65 degrees in Vegas.

Kid, I don't think that NYC would work. I am not saying it wouldn't be a great venue but the hotels in Vegas help a lot financially because you are bringing 1,000 people to their casino from a community that has a reputation for gambling for four to five days. Also the advertising that goes live around the world for their hotel and casino.

I think it was 2013.. i bought a pair of one way tickets from pdx to nyc and thought i got a good deal. I then found out that the room, any decent one within range of anything, would be about the the same price per night. :eek:

Or you can stay in Brooklyn or Queens at a Comfort Inn for about $130/night and learn how the subway works.

As a resident of NYC, I like having an extra excuse for going to Vegas. Don't move the Mosconi here!

We took a redeye in and stayed a few blocks from central park. Drove up through NE after seeing some sights in nyc. If i had planned better, i could've found a better air/hotel mix, but it still worked out. For a longish stay, I'd probably look into living social or groupon deals for long island and take day trips into the city. There was a comparably priced hotel right next to the museum of natural history, but by the time i was ready to pull the trigger the deal was over. If it's going to be a special thing, i don't mind paying a little more for that kind of convenience.
