Mosconi Cup USA Selection changed.

I don't think we would have won even if we had Johan as our coach.
When you don't play good enough to win, guess what, you don't win.....:(

That's what im saying.. Im just surprised people are placing so much importance of a damn coach in pool.

At this point in time I don't see an American team that can win against players from ALL of Europe. At this point I could care less about the 2015 MC. Johnnyt

I think of it as a kind of benchmark for US pool. When we can beat the Euros, maybe we're on our way back.

Well it looks like Matchroom have decided to go back to rankings for 3 of the 5 USA team members and then 2 Wildcard picks. It also seems like they are going to use their own point system and rankings. DCC 9-Ball will be the first one of the points events and the rest will be announced. I guess this gives the players a reason to go to tourneys that they would not usually attend. What you guys think?

OK, the DCC is over. By my reckoning, here are the top dozen players who earned points for the USA Mosconi Cup team (but we don't yet know how many points for each position):

1. Jeremy Sossei (3rd place in DCC 9-Ball)

2. Skyler Woodward (in a 3-way tie for 6th)

3. John Brumback (in a 5-way tie for 9th)
3. Scott Frost
3. Shane Van Boening

6. Jeff Abernathy (in an 11-way tie for 14th)
6. Justin Bergman
6. Tom D'Alfonso
6. Eric Durbin
6. Rodney Morris
6. Shannon Murphy
6. Brandon Shuff

It was interesting hearing Scott Frost on ABR this week talking about how interested he is in making the team -- good start, Scott!

Would be interesting indeed to see both Frost and Brumback on the team.

I would take the top five listed!

No other event needed in my opinion!

Sossie
Skylar
Brumback
Frost
Svb

I would be tickled pink. A merit determined outcome!

The 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and 10-Ball events at the US Bar Table Championships will provide ranking points toward selection for the Mosconi Cup. The 10-Ball event started today. So which of the current points leaders (from the DCC 9-Ball, shown above) are playing in the USBTC 10-Ball?

From a look at the brackets today, I see just 5 of those top 12 entered: Sossei, Woodward, Frost, Van Boening, and Bergman.

Don't forget points were awarded for turning stone back in January too.

No, I don't think so, CK. The only events that have been announced so far as carrying ranking points are:

• DCC 9-Ball
• USBTC 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and 10-Ball
• Pro-Players Championship at SBE

Here's the first Matchroom announcement, stating that DCC 9-Ball would be the first event carrying ranking points: http://www.azbilliards.com/news/sto...selection-reverts-to-ranking-plus-wild-cards/

My mistake, at large. I see the difference now. Match room is different from wpa. I always thought the european team used wpa points, and it would be same for Americans.

Yes, the WPA ranking-points events are different from the Matchroom / USA Mosconi Cup ranking-points events.

And the selection process for the European MC team uses "the five event Euro-Tour Series" and "the four event World Series" and a combination of those two, as announced here: http://www.azbilliards.com/news/stories/11746-2015-european-mosconi-selection-system-announced/

Got it. Unfortunate that the us open and turning stones aren't considered. Oh well. Bar tables reign supreme i suppose :p
