Most balls and other unusual breaks

My first year playing pool I made 6 balls on a 9B break and didn't get out.

Last night my opponent was talking as he went to break a 1P rack and broke them wide open,I was laughing as I re-racked them, although I didn't have to re-rack.

Ha Ha Ha! This happened to me as well. First year playing pool, I was just practicing breaking over and over again. One break, I pocketed 6 balls in the 9 ball rack. I decided that I'd better run them out, since I figured it was an anomaly of a break. Like you, didn't get out. I had no idea what I was doing!

Once I was practicing breaking. I was really using a sledgehammer of a break. One guy at the hall came up to me and told my that my break was pro caliber. That may be, I thought, but I don't know how to run the rest should I actually be playing a game.

I wish I could run out then like I broke the balls. I may have been able to put 1 and 1 together to make 2. Now, I've neither the time nor the patience to practice breaking like that. Ah well, other things matter in life as well.

I made 7 on the break playing 9 ball once and had to push out from behind the 9. :(

7 ball tournament

A few years back in Belgrade MT at the Hub Bar I was in a 7 ball. Tournament. Bob the owner broke and made all seven balls and finally the cue ball rolled in. This was all cought on his security cameras. The only bad thing is that it is a frame pause frame recording si it isn't the smoothest but you can see all of it unfold.

Had my share of strange 8-ball breaks, too. One time broke the rack, and 5 of the 7 solids pocketed (no stripes were pocketed), and I didn't have a shot on the solids! I had to run the stripes out.

I would say, if I made 5 solids on the break 100 times in my life, 99 of those times, I'm probably going to run out the stripes. In 8ball, any time you're at the table, have your entire group to shoot at and your opponent has few, you're in good shape. There are some scenarios where a well-placed hanger could put you in a bad spot but as a general rule, being the shooter in 8ball after a busted run (or in this case, an amazing break) is as good as it gets.

Had a 6 pack on a valley barbox which included three 9ball snaps in the middle of it.

Last year I was playing One Pocket, and it was my break.
For what ever reason, I miss hit the head and second ball causing the stack to come apart. The cue ball went to the side rail, then to the end rail, carromed off two other balls, then came to rest precisely on the foot spot.
I was so taken aback by this strange coincidence that I proceeded to get drunk and spend the next two days trying to duplicate the fete. Needless to say, I could not.

Half of this story is true.

reading threads reminded me

kansas city mo mid 1980's we were stakehorsing a player, who normally plays on a 4 1/2 by 9, against a bar box player in the bar box players home room. 9 ball race to 11 for 2k. we had the best player so we had to give up the 8. the bar box player made the 8 or 9 in 7 of the 11 games.

This is funny.

I made 7 on a 10 ball rack yesterday.

I guess the strange part though is, uhh yea......I got out. :)

But it also came in the middle of a string of dry breaks.

Pouring down rain during the monsoon season in Angeles City, republic of the Philippines. By myself in a bar on a 9 foot table with "no, none, nada witnesses." Practicing my eight ball break. Made the eight on the break 5 out of 11 tries. Scratched two of those times. Has anyone had unusual happenings when it was raining?

I had a girlfriend that got really turned on/ freaky when it rained.

Thought I was gonna die once while we were camping.

thought you should know.

9-ball break....made 7 balls, had to push...the gentleman elected to shoot at the
'white flag' I left him.....the scumbag made it..

I put the 1-ball on the floor once...whitey stayed on the table, so I'm
blaming a worn head spot.....the next break , whitey stayed on the table
again, but I put the WING BALL on the floor.....Am I the only one who has
ever done that?

I once potted the black off an 8ball break 3 games in row on a 7foot table. I can't image the odds on doing that. I think it was years later that I ever potted the black again off the break.

I also played a bloke in a comp when i was a teenager who potted 6 stripes off the break and nothing else but snookered himself on the last stripe which was a shame.

Another time in a money game run to 5 I broke and ran out the first 4 racks straight. I think 3+ balls went in off of every break. I wish that happened every day.

I know, Jude. The "sunk 5 of the 7 solids, and didn't have a peek at the remaining two" wasn't intended to show that's how I play 8-ball. Rather, it was more of the "wouldn't ya know it, Murphy's Law states that this would happen, and oh gosh darn it, I have to run the stripes out" thing. It was fake complaining.

Whenever I'm playing 8-ball, my hope is that my opponent attempts (and fails) a run-out. I know that having all/most of your soldiers on the table (while your opponent as few) is a very good place to be in. I actually have a decent 8-ball game, playing in an 8-ball league once a week, even though I'm primarily a straight pool and one pocket player.

It was a good opportunity to remind folks of 8-ball tactics, though -- thanks for that!

Oh, okay. I was getting a little confused. I regarded you as a player and thought, "this guy ought to know better". I'm in the middle of another hiatus from APA so I don't have to deal with their bs break rules but it's the most frustrating thing. If you made 5 stripes on the break in APAland and no solids, you are often shit out of luck. With that said, I love 8ball assuming its played with BCA or BCAPL rules.
