Most balls pocketed on nine ball break

Just curious as to how many balls people have HONESTLY pocketed on a nine ball break and what were the circumstances.

I pocketed six on the break on an eight foot table years ago. Granted, it had loose pockets, but I was still pretty happy.

Ironic thing though...although I had just made the break of a lifetime I hooked myself! I had to push out and left my opponent a hard shot.

Opponent (who was better player than me) played a good safety and hooked me! I kicked at the ball, missed and gave him ball in hand with three balls on the table. Ended up losing the game. I learned that the pool gods giveth and can quickly taketh away.

5 is my best. I was left with a pretty tough shot on the 1 ball though. Fortunately I did make it and ran out the 4 balls.

This topic was pretty much just covered here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=212823 , although I am not sure how honest people were since one guy said he made 11.

Personally, I recall making 6 once, but the cue ball was one of them. I have made 5 a handful of times.

Here is a cool story I would like to share, i just feel like typing today, my writing here isnt the best-but the story is 100% honest. I just felt like rambling on, I think most people who read this will like it, Best, Eric/Fatboy :)

I have made 5 a few times many years ago on BIG pocket tables in a pool room thats long gone "Tiptons" is Stockton Ca(spell it backwards-its funny), they were 5" pockets maybe even 5 3/8".

I have seen my friend Mike Mitchel make 6 balls lots of times. And lots of other players over the years. They awalys seem to be hooked after a big break, based on my observations.

I have never seen 7.

The best I ever saw was at the Jointed Cue in Sacramento(my all time favorite pool room). It was a quater final of a match on the Fathers day tournment back in about 89. The room has bleacher seating, the table was a Gold Crown 3 I think , the pockets were a hair under 5". Because of all the people in the room the tables were wet and not playing very fast-which makes this more amazing. I dont remember who was playing and i'm reasonably accurate of the pocket size. The break was working for both players, it was not "Rack your own", loser racked, winner breaks format.

So now that I described the situation I'll tell you about the break, the player was hitting them hard, 2-3 balls went in 100MPH instantly, the rest of the balls were just rolling fast, faster than normal on a break, they were all rolling about the same speed. You know most of the time there is a ball that gets loose and is rolling much faster than the rest of the balls, sometimes you get 2 fast balls out of the rack. This break was differnt, I noticed that all the balls were rolling about the same speed and they just seemed to find a pocket.

I made a point to remember this clearly as I knew it was something special. Six balls made their way into a pocket, none or very few balls kissed off each other, they just rolled into the pocket. There was 2 balls rolling towards the same corner pocket at the head of the table they were rolling at the same pace. And when they both got to jaws they knocked each other apart, and just missed falling into that pocket, the CB had came back up table and naturally he was dead hooked****. Had either of those 2 last balls been a inch infront or behind each other he would have made 8 balls on the break. The 9 was up by the spot and never moved much.

There was 100 people in that room watching that, and it was as close as it could have been to making 8 out of 9 on the break. I commited that to memory and while I dont recall the past very accurately like Jay or Bobby Cotton. I do have this one in my head I can see it plane as day, Itwas the 4 and 6 that collided 2"infront of the pocket. The way the balls came out of that rack was interesting, even if he didnt make so many balls I would still remember it as it just looked different. We have all seen a million breaks but this one was something special.

So it was 6 not 8, I have seen piles of 6's but not like that one. Nobody made more than 4 on that table the whole tournament, it did break easy all the time, I played on it enough to know that. But 8?? Wow I wish that would have happened.

Hope you like my story, i'm kinda sleepy now but its the best I could do.

Happy Christmas,

Eric

****I have a theory and have seen it time and time again, it seems that everytime a player makes5 balls on the break playing 9,10 ball he ends up hooked. More often than not the player is hooked, anyone else agree with that.

one last thing, I made 5 balls 3 nights ago on the break playing 8 ball on a 9' box with big pockets, first time I made 5 in a very long time, my break is weak.:o

I can honestly say I missed that recent post. Interesting, that poster and I were both thinking the same thing at roughly the same time...Great to know we both are getting responses from different AZers...

Great post...making that many balls on a wet table is amazing...another example of the complexities and variables that can occur when breaking.

I hate to sound cliche-ish...but breaking sometimes is like a box of chocolates (you know the rest of the quote)!!!

Can you explain that more, Fatboy ?

I'm not lookin' to bash, I just don't see the connection. Maybe I'm missing something...

seven

i was playing 5 dollar at the west side tavern in climax springs mo on a bar box. the only 2 balls left were the 7 ball setting in the middle of the left foot pocket and the 9 setting in the right foot pocket.
i was using a joss west donimino pattern cue.

chuck starkey

i made 6 in a tournament once, and there was a ball hanging in a pocket....was on tapped tables.it was the first rack of a match.......i remember my opponents face was a picture:D

Eric said he was tired so allow me to interject.

People are no different than cows in a barn in this respect.
A barn tends to be warm in the winter because of their body heat.
This also produces humidity.
Humidity makes the bed cloth play slow and the rails play fast.
Some players have complained that giving the 8 on a dry table starts
to feel like the 7 if a lot of 'sweaters' gather around.

And BTW...ERIC...you are always a good communicator...
..and now your posts are better also..you asked to write better in a
former post and it's working..ask and ye shall receive

when you get a cramped room full of people the humidity goes up, the cloth gets wet and the tables play slower. That room was packed hot and wet. Its common same in the action room at the Derby before it moved from the executive west-that room got wet too because of so many people. I'm not making this up, lots of people know about this. Just something you learn hanging out at the pool room. :)

Just last night the guys I was playing w/ made 6 on the break and had to push out. That was when a one pocket match broke out. We had 3 innings each before I got a clean shot to get out. Started off pretty and ended up pretty ugly.

When I was about 16 or 17, I pocketed 7 balls on the break playing 9-ball in a pool tournament at a local bar. It was on a 7 foot Valley. The two balls left on the table was the 7 and 9 ball. I got out.

Playing 8-ball, I made 9 balls once, including the 8 ball.

And the best feat I remember was breaking a game of 8-ball and shattering the head ball (13 ball). When it shattered, I thought I had jumped a ball off the table and hit the pool table light and the shrapnel was a florescent light. Nope - it was the 13 ball.

All of these feats were witnessed by my opponent and bystanders.

Amazing, though. Back then I broke crazy hard, now I break like a panzy.

"Where's my purse?"

I made 5 a few months ago on my table (and got out!) I've been playing for years and that is the only time I've made that many. I can't imagine what 7 or 8 must look like, but seeing 5 fall in the pockets was a pretty sight.

6 On the break

Several years ago I made 6 on the break. Neither one of us could beleive it. I also broke the skirt on the table with that break.

Most balls pocketed on 9-ball break

I've made 5 quite a few times, but I made 5 including the 9-ball once!

I know it's not what the O P asked but

I've seen all 6 pocketed twice in 6 ball by two different people & was told by several in New Orleans that Mark Cavalier broke so hard one time that 5 balls including the cueball flew off the table...would have been cool to witness that one:D

Holy mackerel!
Can't hit them that hard but at 9-ball Ive put the one on the floor a few times. The break I probably hit the hardest the wing ball left the table...
..all these breaks the cue ball stayed on the table so I feel a bit hard luck.

Cavalier's break cue may be that weapon of mass destruction that Bush
was looking for:eek:

Most on the break

I saw Danny Harriman in a 7-ball tournament make 6 balls on the break and get hooked on the 7-ball -- right up against it. He called his pocket and banked the 7-ball to win that game.
