The "Celtic Prince" is an awesome looking cue.
I love the blackn white design. I think the cuemaker wents bananas during his worked on this.

My fav is the Icarus:

Its not that expensive (expensive enough for me ;-) but a real beau.

Also i think this Gina is a expensive one:

Personally I would rather see intricate inlays than scrimshaw ..... like the arthur cue. To me its a display of what the cuemaker is capable of doing.

Actually it was authenticated, it's also known who he made it for, and where the wood came from. Just an FYI... the owner only buys all original, authenticated cues and he is a stickler. A nice guy, but a stickler to his buying criteria.

IF JM WOULD HAVE MADE IT BILL COULD HAVE VERIFIED IT.....LOL

Very Interesting.
Thanks for the info.
Who would be the one that authenticated it?
Was it Bill? Pete? Has to be some Real Creditable guy.
None of my buisness, but, just for Historical Information.
This Would put Gus' Personnel Cue #2 on the most sinificant Cue List??,
or at least tied for #2, His unfinished Cue being the other "competing"
for the #2 spot..
This Significant Cue List has nothing to do with this post, of course. They are two different subjects.
I would be more interested in the Significant Side than on the Marketing side.. A Beautiful cue would not stand against a Significant Cue for collectability, IMO, which is worth........:(

Right off the Bat from the cuemaker??
When Barry sold his Dad's unfinished cue
(That was being made for Richard Akimoto, Former owner of Hawaiian Brian's Billiards, who, By the way, never got it)
Barry sold it to ??? (Can't say, not my place to disclose the new owner)

jesus, is that a true story...? why the hell would he do something like that. what a f#&*ing sucker. that is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.

I'm not sure who you are refering to. I know Richard very well and knew this story from a long time ago. Could you please tell me who you are refering to.. :) , He being ??
Thanks for this post.. Because this was a very interesting story, but, Can only go on a little more from my side. The story is sad and a bit touchy.
And really not my place to tell it..
I can get Richard to tell you it.
It is his story to tell and for me, I cannot get too involved with it. Being someone might be ....
I always strive for a Win-Win Situation. So....In this story, there might and probally wil be a loser. It would be most appropriate to let it go and move on..
And, I understand you reaction, but, "The story you hear is true, the names can't be changed to protect the innocent. Da da dum dum..."

This story is getting a little out of control...
You guys are twisting this.....

Barry had nothing to do with this so called customer that ordered the cue.. Gus took all the orders..
Gus passed away while this cue was being built.. The cue was never completed.. Didn't matter who ordered it, it was never completed..
Funny years later people laying claim to a cue that wasn't or ever would be finished..

It stayed in the Szamboti family for over a dozen years..
I sold the cue for the Szamboti family years ago to a very respectable collector..

What sick thing are you referring to?????

You have no business speaking about something you know nothing about...
This was very disrespectful to Barry..
Seeing posts from Cincy because of your story telling

The only part of the "SAD and TOUCHY" story is that Barry lost his father, and the world lost a great cue maker..

You want the facts... Here you go.

The "Last Work" had no order sheet and nothing written on it showing it was for ANYONE.. Gus was the only one who knew..
Richard called and told the Szamboti family that the cue was being made for him..
Barry took Richard on his word and made him a copy of the Last Work at a fraction of the price, just so he would be compensated..
How's that...
What SAD story are you telling...
Forget to mention he received a cue.....

The UNFINISHED Cue stayed in the Samboti family over 12 years until I sold it for them. The monies went to many family menbers..

This is what stops Barry and other cuemaker's from coming on here..

Too many people on here spread rumors on touchy subjects. Barry is a class act and is worth his weight in gold. The man has more honor than most and has done a great job in keeping the Szamboti name a live. Thanks Ken for informing us of the details, but I truly believe you never had to justify any actions by Barry or his family and the "last work by Gus."

Step back and think before you type once in a while.... you would be surprised at what others would be offended by....

Now back to the thread...

While I don't know, I would have to think Tony from Black Boar has sold one of the most expensive cues first hand. Just a guess... but I think he could sell a 100K cue

Alton,
Well here is the wrench in your story. Gus had MANY personal cues. I read the last bit of tripe you posted taking a shot at the one in Mark Kulungians posession, while trying to promote the one you have access to. However that being said, he does have a letter from Barry stating the cue WAS Gus' player. But now on to another topic.. cuemakers have MANY players. There is no definitive way to collaborate who has which outside of authentication. But it doesn't really matter, IMHO if a cue maker had one player and he passed on and was famous, OK you have something. But Jim White who is a great person and player is on like his 4th or 5th or better, PLAYING cue. He'll be around a while, he might have 15 or 20. :)

Did he really confirm a price of $299,000(!) for his most expensive collectors cue?
Is it the stick he made for Jim Rempe long years ago?
He says they're the best performing cue ever....:D

I'd like to take a shot or two with Mark's 9 ball Szamboti!

"Don't flame me Putz"

Thanks for an intelligent post...

Normaly I totaly agree, but I love the design on this cue (the black and white thing), especially the "wobbling" points.

all I know is Ken knows more about Gus. barry that damn near anyone out there, he has a god damned hard drive memory he dosent forget any cue, o he can describe them to you to a tee, who owned them etc with out looking at them. What ever he says is right, I aint kissing his ass, its a fact. If if wasnt I wouldnt say so.

Also leave Barry out of this he took over where Gus left off and were all lucky he did and is a honest man.

Its clear alot of people here dont undersand the relationships between Ken and the Szam family, it runs deep. Ken is getting rich off cues, he knows all the big cues and who ows them(any cue worth over $20K he knows about no matter who made it -unless its hidden away like the Gus box cue on Ebay was), I asked for a certain big cue oince and in a month he had it, for about half what other people could buy it for=perhaps there are 50 in the world and he found one, he called in a favor from someone. do I Like Ken? yes is he my best friend? no. is he the most knowlegelable cue guy out there most likely, Mark K I dont know much about, Ken is among the smartest if not the smartest cue dealer out there, even out side of cues his memory is scary he recalls things, specs, events conversations with 100% accuracy, I know I do too-I wish I didnt have such a good memory, guys with that talent are rare,

insulting people before you have the book on them is weak, hell even if I hated him I still got to give him his credit, I know Reggie Jackson-he is an asshole from top to bottom, but could he play base ball? just a little.

there is an old saying "Before you open your mouth and call the shot you better know the whole score" the insults are a example of weakness, kid shit. I dont need to defend anyone, but its a low class move to publically insult anyone, if you dont like someone pick up the phone.

Ken can somehow get his hands on cues that nobody else can period, he dosent write shit down he remembers it I'll ask him what I paid him for a cue a year ago he will describe the cue in perfect detail and tell me what i paid him, believe me I have tested him often he is batting 1.000. sure he has that NY short fuse disease, hell if I lived there I would too, take people as they are you might just learn something, thats better for all parties involved.

As far as Barry if anyone would say anything bad about him, WOW thems fightn words, I wish I was half the man Barry is. And no i'm not ass kissing for a cue I have a monster collection of his work, perhaps the largest of anyone. I dont need another cue, I need Barry as a friend for personal reasons.

Be nice to people you'll go alot farther in life-if thats what you want???
